Personally, i am against. While in some areas of life something centralized and controlling may be beneficial, things like Bellsouth and Microsoft piss me off. This is just another example:

I think you should try to own an entire line of properties, and build houses and hotels on them all.  You'll rake in money faster than anything.

Or, you could charge tennants 10 times the bill they owe by owning both the Energy Power Plant and the Dihydrogen Oxide Treatment Facilities Smiley

Monopoly... What do you think?

I like to be the little boot when I play...and I usually try to get all of the railroads.  Wink

Another link talking about this...

Monopolies are not a good thing; there's no competition to protect against price gouging.
(Unless, of course, it's my monopoly, in which case...tell the regulators to stay outta my business!)

I prefer the wheelbarrow.  I like getting all the railroads but I also go for the light purple and orange properties.  Statistically speaking, those are the most likely to get landed on in the course of a game.

I don't think it is a monopoly.  There are plenty of substitues to the .com extension.

Personally,I generally hate monopoly's,our Local utilities are a monoply.We get everything from 1 company,Gas,Water,Electric,Sewer...1 bill..you get behind...you lose everything...

We have 1 local cable company,1 local telephone service. All have deals with the city, and control the market.

I like the being the Car,or the horse rider dude....I prefer the Reds,Greens and yellow properties, but make my killings on the Dark Purples, and light blues.

B, the industries you described are natural monopolies.  These companies actually make your prices cheaper versus a competitve market because huge overhead costs would have to be incurred by all competitors.  In other words, a second water company would have to have a second water purification plant and lay second pipes to all the houses.  The trick is how to keep these natural monopolies honest.  You can't let them charge what the want (like a real monopoly) and you can't just pay them back their costs (no incentive to be in the business or improve efficiency).

I prefer separate companies...A separate  water & sewer company,a separate  Electric company, separate gas company.

I understand that, but we also get screwed.I have a buddy that lives less than  block outside of the City limits of the town,he can't get any broadband internet access. The 1 cable company wont service him,and either will the 1 phone company. The cheapest Broadband in our area has to come from either of those 2 companies...unless you go sattilite.

They threaten to deregulate electric utilites here a couple of years ago,City Utilities Freaked....

I agree, but we get only what they want, until it's cost effective for them.

Wow.  I thought you were saying you had one water (and sewage) company, 1 electric, 1 gas.  If these are all actually 1 company that sucks.
