Signed it.  Canada really should be ashamed of itself on this one. I started watching a special the other night and couldn't finish it. Disturbing.

not that i agree with clubbing baby seals .. but my reaction to this is an overall "meh" followed by a shoulder shrug.

I think it says more about the hypocrisy.of people than anything else. The fact that people get up in arms about the slaughter of "cute" animals but noone gives a rat's ass that orkin exists or that "humane" societies kill more unwanted pets s in a month than there are seals killed in a year.

I'm sure everyone that responded here is a vegetarian and grows their own grains to prevent the wholesale slaughter of field mice and other animal wildlife when corn and wheat are harvested in large scales.

Death is a part of life. Everything in nature kills something. Bears eat seals, Seals eat fish. The annual seal slaughter is not only done for pelts, but also to keep a huge seal population under control, else they would devastate area fishing and force thousands to starve. I'm sure hunting of whale by man in centuries past has led to this seal overpopulation. So now if falls on man to keep levels stable.

Welcome to the world.

I for one am against what the "humane" society is all about,  it's a death camp for unwanted pets like you said. (and there are methods to prevent this, but people are too stupid to oblige) So yeah,  I give a rats ass.  Any living breathing creature has a right to its own existence,  so Orkin,  um,  sure.

Death may be a part of life,  and like you said everything in nature kills something else...TO SURVIVE. Don't gimme that junk about thousands starving due to area devastation because of seal over-population. Humans are a resilient species, and the lack of fish is not going to wipe out people as if it were the end of the Cretaceous. If that IS the case then I could understand hunting for survival. Besides, we're not talking about some third world country, and the fact that we as a species have evolved from that of the stone age is enough reason to abandon this form of survival. So killing for pelts or "controlling population" is just a weak excuse to make money or for hunters to get their "cookies" and stay in touch with cro-magnon man.  THAT is F'd up. Whether it's our fault or not,  it is the way it is. You can't right a wrong by doing wrong.  Welcome that world?  No thanks.

You got me on one thing though,  I am a carnivore in all its glory and I am not ashamed.  Difference is,  I eat meat that's "grown" (cow, pig, chicken) for us people, call it surviving.  But killing to kill, or for money... they can all drop to the 9th level,  burn.

The online petition is about as useful as tits on a boar.

Very true.

I'm about as cruelty free as the come.  The growing your own food is a crock though.  That's something that meateaters say to try to degrade veggies. On whole, we destroy far less than your average carnivore.  It's not perfect, but as close as we can get.

I do agree that the petition does nothing.  That's why I'm a member of that dreaded PETA.  So sue me. They're extreme, but some of their campaigns have been succesful w/out the crazy.  (Like finally getting Mercedes to offer a car w/out leather. Not that I want a Mercedes.)

I think it's just as crazy to not eat meat because it promotes the murder of animals.  If it was an endangered species, that's one thing, but cows, chickens, and pigs??  Meat is what those animals are raised for.

I didn't say that's why I don't eat meat.

Sorry, but PETA does more to hurt animal-rights sympathy than they do to help it.  They are essentially a terrorist organization (and I mean that in the dictionary sense, not the Dubya sense); they don't intentionally kill people, but they sure don't have any problems with buildings being burned to the ground.  And their hypocrisy just makes me sick; PETA kills (excuse me, "euthanizes") thousands of animals every year.  They realize the necessity of euthanization, yet obnoxiously harass organizations who do the same thing.

If I were a vegetarian, it would be in spite of PETA, not because of them.

so yeah .. Orkin.. you know .. the bug extermination company .. last i checked bugs qualify as living breathing creatures .. but i guess since they're not "cute" they get excluded from your philosophy .. or is it that it isn't practical .. i guess practicality trumps idealism

Its not cause they're not "cute" its cause they carry diseases and, if let to roam free, can lead to massive widespread plague.

Let's see - Orkin or plague.

Hmm..
