2011 NFC East Champions!

« on: April 07, 2006, 11:48:54 pm »

So, the Miami Dolphins finished off last year in a very good way, winning the last 6 for a very respectable 9-7 record, given all the circumstances within the season (new coach, rookie RB, new veteran QB, aging defense, etc...)

Daunte Culpepper has signed on to be a Dolphin.  Keep in mind he's coming off massive ACL/PCL/MCL reconstruction.

I'm reading in a lot of posts and hearing about it in person that the Dolphins can not only win their division in the AFC East, they can go ALL THE WAY to the Super Bowl, and then, WIN THE WHOLE THING.

I'd like to know if you've been smoking the same weed that Ricky Williams is smoking, if you seriously consider the Dolphins a SUPER BOWL CALIBER TEAM...

Scratch that, you people have the Dolphins winning the Super Bowl.  They would then be a CHAMPIONSHIP CALIBER TEAM.

This means that, according to you, the following teams will NOT be winning the Super Bowl this year:

Pittsburgh
Indianapolis
Cincinnatti
Denver
Kansas City
Seattle
Chicago
Carolina

These 8 teams, IMO, are better teams than the Miami Dolphins.  Five of them are in the AFC.  You all know that even if the Dolphins make the playoffs (which could happen), that the road to the Super Bowl will most likely go through any 3 of those five teams, as the Dolphins would face a "right now" contender in the playoffs in each playoff game, no question.

Can someone step forward and explain why all the blind homerism?  I'm a Giants fan, and even after the 11-5 season, I knew we'd have a tough time, and a long way to go (and we still do).  You don't hear me gloating about future Super Bowl titles.

It's OK for players to convince themselves that they can win a championship (and I think they should), but you Dolphins fans continue to amaze me.  There have been better teams in the last 30+ years, what makes this Dolphin team so good that they're going to run the table?

I say they're gonna be in the thick of it this season...... and will run the table either next season or the one after.

ok, you've listed 8 teams that are better than us...but you can throw out 3 of them because they are NFC teams and won't affect our chances of making it to the super bowl. with the remaining 5 better teams, that means we are better than the 10 other AFC Teams. further, you didn't list new england, which means you have us in the playoffs with AT LEAST a division championship... additionally, i think it can be argued that so far, we have had the best offseason of all the AFC teams listed above, many of which have regressed from last year (pitt, indy, etc) and we have a higher 1st round draft pick than most of them as well. so thusfar, we have decreased the gap separating us from those teams of last year...for example...indy, the 2006 super bowl favorite, made it 1 playoff game farther than we did last year, and won the same amount of playoff games as we did. our chances are much better this year than last.

see the point? most of us realistically have the dolphins in the playoffs, and from there, believe that a championship is at least a possibility...i don't think anyone (other than CBS, ESPN, etc) has us as likely super bowl contenders.

then again, i just spent 5 minutes defending the fins in the Anti Fins forum, so maybe i am smoking some of ricky's stuff...

I can tell you one thing,  you haven't heard/read it from me.  I see Miami having a pretty good season,  but Super Bowl contenders?  Nope.  I'd like some of that stuff from whoever IS smoking though.  If Miami does go on to win the division it's a good possibility they'll bow out in the first round.  But hell,  many people last year gave Pittsburgh no chance in hell and look what happened (as a wild card team nonetheless).

Indy, Denver, Seattle and even KC are contenders,  the rest...overrated.
Yes, even Pitt. (IMO)

Miami, possibility, sure.  Realisticaly, no.

I'd argue KC, they have a new coach, and were on the downswing.  I'd put us on par with Cinci and slightly behind Pitt, Indy, and Denver (although we whooped Denver's behinds when we were worse than this).  I think Pittsburgh is overrated and played way above the cieling in their playoff run as well.

No, Frimp, that's called being dillusional.

Go read some of the predictions on the Dolphins Discussion board.  Someone (you, i think) has them going 13-3, with an 11-0 start, for example.  You can't be serious.

Ok, how about this...Miami sucks and we'll be lucky to get 3 wins next season. Oh...My life sucks, my car sucks, my cat sucks, my TV sucks, my house sucks, my beer sucks, my job sucks... Everything sucks, and I should go kill myself now.

Sorry. Call me delusional all you want.  I'd rather look at life with a positive attitude, than being down and negative all the time.

Oh..I found the perfect girlfriend for you...

I don't really remember seeing anyone Gloating on this site? Or going on about who we "own" this season? (Apart from the Pats Grin)

If our perhaps slightly ambitious expectations for next season are considered "Blind Homerism", then how would you classify your (what i would call) blind, misdirected, and somewhat ridiculous criticism of the Miami Dolphins?

I'll be the first to agree that the chances of us actually lifting the Lombardi trophy this year are slim, but is that supposed to stop us from believing?

No.

It's just customary with Die-Hard fans that we hope for the best season after season, and that we'd cheer for our team until the end.

Can't say i'd call that gloating?

Great post! I'd also like to add that I'm not going to expect less or look forward to less just to make some depressing pessimist happy.

Retrospective:

I was cautiously optimistic that Culpepper would somewhat return to form and get us through the division and playoffs.  I figured we had as good a chance as any of the other teams above.

Instead we got a 6-10 record and Nick Saban showed everyone he's asshole.
