Don't hold me to this, but the word is that Crisp broke a knuckle sliding into 3rd on Saturday.  He'll miss 3 weeks to a month, Adam Stern will man CF until he comes back.

What's the "rules" on sliding headfirst vs. feetfirst?

Stealing - it's almost always a head first slide...but some teams won't allow it.  Example, Houston:  you slide headfirst in any situation is an automatic 5 game suspension without pay.

Crisp will be out for at least 10 days.  Official statement from team doctor, Thomas Gill:

"Once sufficient healing has occurred, Coco can begin batting and return to baseball activities," Gill said in a statement.  "Rough time table for this injury is 10 days."

I get hungry everytime I read the name "Coco Crisp".

Hopefully he'll come back soon.

Is it usually a headfirst slide when stealing so as to prevent defenders from being "taken out" during a steal?

Why wouldn't the sliding player want the defender to be taken out?

I thought there might be some archaic baseball code of honor where it's OK to take a defender out on a double play ball but not on a steal.
