Burnout 3 - Takedown

Premise: Drive cars at insane speeds and drive crazy and risky to gain speed.  Then crash out your opponents.

Rating: Awesome, so far.

This game got unbelievable reviews.  I'm not a fan of racing games, normally...I like some, but generally I don't go for them.  I was sold on this game when the reviewer said that "you need to get this racing game even if you don't like racing games."  Plus, it's now a $20 title...can't beat it.  ...and they're right, because it's not REALLY a racing game.  It's more of a crashing game.  You are rewarded for driving on the wrong side of the road, getting air, and sliding through turns to getting "boost".  You also can take down your opponents by crashing into them, whether it's ramming them in the back, hitting them in special "takedown" areas on their cars, or pscying them out to crash themeselves to avoid you.  During a crash (whether it's you or someone you "takedown", the game slows to bullet time (where you can still control your crashing vehicle in order to cause your other opponents to crash with you.)

I've been playing the career mode, which consists of a bunch of different objectives.   Sometimes, you race, other times, you're supposed to get to a certain number of takedowns before your opponent, etc and so on.  I've only played for about an hour and I've already unlocked about 10 additional cars.  They are all over the map, from muscle cars to compacts.

Overall, the game is really easy to pick up and play, and really fun.  Since I love the carnage of horrific crashes, this game was great from the start.

I feel the same way as you about the usual racing game. This however i would like to review.

It's for PS2 and XBOX.

It got a 9.5 from Gamespot...and I was like WTF???  I'd never even heard of it.  But, when it's marked down to 20 bucks...shit.  I'll try it.

Another positive about it is that it's really easy to play.  I sat down and won my first race....it's basically stop, go, turn and turbo.  ...the rest is just crashing.

I love Burnout, not your run-of-the-mill racing game.  (and I hate racing games)  But the fact that you get to crash out cars instead of just going around in  track over and over is just plain awesome.

uh...did i miss something? is this post really from 2006? this game came out like 2 years ago...

anyway, i bought it for xbox back then, played it like a fiend, finished it 100% in about 2 weeks. the PS2 version sucks...with the speed at which this game is played, the terrible graphics on the PS2 version (specifically the low framerate and short draw distances) make it very difficult to dodge incoming obstacles and cars. the same goes for burnout 4. burnout 4 was not quite as good as 3 was. burnout 3 is one of my favorite racing games ever, and it was hard to pull myself away from it when gran turismo 4 came out....but what must be done, must be done...GT4 is king.

We're a little behind on the lastest and coolest games. Just wait and my X-men Legends 2 review will be up here soon.

This game is the shit! I was never really good at racing games, but I was always good at crashing in them so this game is the perfect driving game for me.
