So, how did you fare?  Up a lot, down a lot?  If you are getting money back, are you going to get yourself something with it?

For me, I had to pay a crapton because I was a 10-99 for part of the year last year.  That sucks.  So, instead of getting something nice, I bought a 20 dollar video game to entertain me for the next few months.

I got about 4K coming my way. I think I will stick 2K in my IRA and the rest goes towards my downpayment on a place.

You're getting a place?  About time.

I'm getting like 3 grand back, and I think I'm putting it directly into the "I need to buy a ton of overpriced furniture for my place" fund.

I have been looking for a place....problem, everything is wayyyy to expensive. South Florida realty is crazy, you know that. Finally the market is cooling down somewhat but now the interest rates are at a several year high again. Its never a win-win situation.

When I die, the IRS is going to sell my internal organs on the black market to pay my tax debt...and they only agreed to that arrangement after consulting deathclock.com

While getting something back seems preferable to having to pay, why give the government an interest free loan every year?

Exactly.  Which is why I'm happy that I owed $400.

I usually hover near break-even.  This year, tuition bills got me the refund.
I agree, however, that people shouldn't over-withhold for "forced savings".

I do it because I can't be trusted to save the money myself.  If I have it, I will spend it, and come tax day, shelling out a few thou is unfeasible.
