Namco Bracket

Why Zelda: Ocarina of Time shouldn't win

Did anyone even realize that Nintendo had a new console in the late 90's called "Nintendo 64"?  Better yet - did you know a new Zelda game was released?  No, you didn't, because the marketing campaign for this game was piss-poor.  PS and DreamCast were rocking the face of the world, and this game was nowhere to be found.  Also...how many more times can you re-make the Zelda storyline?  It's the same shit, time and time again (pun intended).  Princess Zelda gets kidnapped by Gannondorf, and you, a punk kid who knows nothing from nothing, is the world's only chance, because a stupid punk kid has more intelligence and strength then anyone else on the planet.  Yawn....

I'd like to see that little punk beat Darth Vader.

VS.

Why Tecmo Super Bowl shouldn't win.

To quote Frimp, I only remember one thing about that game:

Ready.....Down.....HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT
The other thing I can remember is whenever the CPU picked up a fumble or grabbed an INT, they all of a sudden became Carl Lewis, and there was no chance in hell you'd be catching them.  Also, how in the hell could kickers kick 70 yard FG's, consistently?  You could kick an FG from midfield and make it all the time.  You could also score 25 sacks in one game, which would break the NFL record...of 2006!!

Get his ass off the field.

One bad thing about Ocarina is that since the graphics are trying to be realistic, it has aged poorly.  Games that are "cartoony" and stylized, like Street Fighter II or Super Mario World can stay fresh a lot longer.

I'm sorry, but Ocarina of Time will conquer all.

I'm sick of seeing Zelda games on here.  Why the hell would a game be considered for best EVER if only 15% of gamers even have the ability to play it?

Huh?

Anyone can go out and buy an N64 and then buy OoC.  Just like anyone can go and buy a video card that will support these high-end computer netgames.

What does that have to do with how good a game is?

Plenty of good songs are never heard, good movies never watched, good books never read, and good games never played.  Ocarina of Time is one of the most well received games ever.  How did you not have the ability to play it, anyway?  N64 were for sale, and not super expensive.  It's not like to had to play it on a government mainframe.

Who would go out to buy a console for this one game?  A good game should be accessible to everyone without going to buy a bunch of hardware (i.e. GTA, Halo, etc)

Point is that is had a select audience of Nintendo customers only, not for other platforms.

The NES had tons of good games, as did the Super NES...as did N64.  All were very succesfull consoles with vast user bases.

Halo has a user base of only XBOX players (the PC game isn't even really the same, and came out way after Halo's popularity already hit.  Final Fantasy games are on here that were only available on one system.  The list goes on and on.   You didn't bitch when Twisted Metal made the list.

you're right, I'll shut up.

I'm just speaking from my point of view.  I've never even HEARD of this game before this tournament, and if it was SOO GOOD, I'd think it'd have got some word-on-the-street grapevine time.

I bet that you just weren't into games at the time, or you were into more adult themed stuff.  I've been through phases where I missed great games.  I didn't play Super Mario World or Zelda: A Link to the Past until many years after they were relased.  I bet that the crowd you were hanging out with at the time was into Playstation at the time and you just weren't exposed.

Its quite possible...  But as much as people say this game is great, I figure that I'm not about to go run out to buy it cause its not available for any system I have.  And that factors into MY OWN PERSONAL vote - availability.

Zelda: OoC and Mario 64 were two video games that made buying the console worth it.
