Although reports are stating NYY OF Matsui will be out 3 months, the actual recovery and rehab time for this injury is much longer.  Depending on when Sheff comes back, look for the Yankees to start looking at outfield replacements for the year.

On a side note, how sick was it that the man STILL picked up the ball and got it back into play after being injured?

Tough break. Literally. I had the feeling that he was just about to pick things up offensively then he gets hurt. Well, at least on the plus side at least when he comes back Torre won't be obligated to play him everday because of the stupid streak.

Godzilla had a pretty hefty consecutive games played streak going...but you knew as soon as he hit the ground that his wrist/forearm was toast. It just doesn't bend that direction very well. Add this injury to Sheffield's, and the Yanks are definitely hurtin'. I heard the crew on Baseball Tonight last night talking about the Yanks resurrecting the trade dialogue with Philly for Bobby Abreu.

It depends on Melky Cbarera to be honest with you. Melky will not duplicate Matsui's production, but if he can play well in the outfield and at the plate, they won't trade away the farm system for a quick fix. Truth is the Yankees don't really have any tradeable talent other than the untouchables. It's the great prospects or crap.

If they trade for Bobby Abreu, that means they won't pick up Sheffield's option and he knows it. This would make him drag his ass all year long. Not to mention it would cost Philip Hughes, Chien Meng Wang AND Eric Duncan. Maybe more. Teams always go overboard when they try to trade with the Yankees. Compare what Boston got Schilling for to what Arizona asked in Soriano and Nick Johnson from NY.

Matsui hurts, but if Sheffield returns in a week that means your lineup is still:

Not exactly a bad Top 7 who will have trouble scoring. They shouldn't press the panic button, but they will unless Melky plays well the next 2 weeks.
