Title: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0? Post by: jtex316 on December 01, 2009, 04:41:49 pm Easy answer: So that no matter what, 1 team will be undefeated at the end of the Super Bowl.
Too bad the Giants aren't going to the Super Bowl this year to save the 1972 season (again) for you guys. Title: Re: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0? Post by: gocowboys31 on December 01, 2009, 05:00:03 pm I don't care what team does it. The fact that the dolphins will no longer be the only undefeated team is good enough for me. I still don't think it will happen. The colts have no intrest in going undefeated and the pressure will eventually get to the saints.
Title: Re: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0? Post by: ethurst22 on December 01, 2009, 05:11:40 pm As a Dolphins fan, I wish that some one would go undefeated.
Football has changed since 1972. If you hit on a mixture of free agents and draft choices, you can turn fortunes around in a year. Look at what Miami did last year by going from 1-15 to 11-5. The odds for teams going undefeated through a season to me have increased. I get tired of ESPN dragging out Don Shula and the guys every year when someone gets to be 9-0. Its the same old questions. I hope the NFL turned into college football with an undefeated team every year. It's a milestone in Dolphins history but I'd rather have six Super Bowl trophies than two trophies and one undefeated season. If Drew Brees and the Saints go undefeated, then to me, he leaps over Tom Brady as a premier quarterback and also Dan Marino. When you really look at the NO offense, there is only one superstar and that's Brees. To me, Reggie Bush is a Joke. Title: Re: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0? Post by: fyo on December 01, 2009, 05:32:49 pm I honestly couldn't care less. The "perfect season" just doesn't hold a lot of value to me. Sure, it was cool, but it was ages ago. Who cares anymore?

Post by: Doc-phin on December 01, 2009, 07:04:20 pm I get tired of it year after year myself. I would love it if the Saints did it, considering how down that franchise has been over the years. Sorry Saints, didn't mean to put the hex on ya.
Mostly, I just don't want anyone in our division doing it (particularly the Pats). And it wasn't all that long ago that the Colts were in our division so forget them too. I know everyone says otherwise, but I think we will begin to see multiple teams go undefeated over the next 15 years or so. There is such a heavy amount of coaching and player turnover that the few organizations with a solid coaching staff and the ability to keep their top players will be elite and everyone else will be looking for scraps. Title: Re: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0? Post by: Thundergod on December 01, 2009, 07:25:50 pm I hope one of them goes undefeated too, so the whiners, haters and MEDIA finally stop bringing it up every two seconds. And to have something new to hate; fans of that team pounding their chest about being the first to go 19-0.

I agree. I think the undefeated season held value in the pre-1978 NFL were a slew of rule changes opened up the offense. The ironic part about the Saints is that they are similiar to the "No Name defense". You know who Vilma and Sharper is, but the rest of the defense, I don't have a clue. Brees IS the offense. I wouldn't mind if the Colts went undefeated but I'd rather have Dungy as coach. Jim Caldwell going undefeated? Doesn't even sound right. Title: Re: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0? Post by: Brian Fein on December 02, 2009, 10:02:46 am The Dolphins have been shitty for 10+ years. What else do we have to be proud of anymore other than heritage?
I'd like to thank the Patriots for choking in both games. ::) Title: Re: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0? Post by: JVides on December 02, 2009, 11:19:06 am Yeah, I still care about it. It's only been done once, and it's only been done by the franchise most of us here root for. What's not to like?
Title: Re: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0? Post by: StL FinFan on December 04, 2009, 01:55:52 pm 1) The Dolphins will always be the first team to have gone undefeated.
2) If both teams somehow ran the table, it would diminish what the Patriots did the season before last. Title: Re: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0? Post by: CF DolFan on December 04, 2009, 03:17:09 pm To go undefeated and beat a previously undefeated team would be very cool regardless of being second to go undefeated.
I'm in the minority as I'm proud of what we did but am embarrased as that is our only claim to fame as of late!! I certainly don't bring it up as a bragging kind of a thing. Title: Re: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0? Post by: Phishfan on December 04, 2009, 03:21:12 pm I find it amazing that Dolphin fans would even consider wanting the only perfect season broken. I never bring it up. I doubt many of you ever bring it up because it was before you were born. It is history. It makes the Dolphins franchise special. I don't get it.
Title: Re: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0? Post by: StL FinFan on December 04, 2009, 03:38:25 pm Because it is history, it is sad that we have to drag up 1972 to have anything to brag about.

If we had won a SB or two by now it would mean more. As it is ... it's like being Ed Bundy and bragging about what we used to do. Title: Re: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0? Title: Re: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0? Post by: Phishfan on December 04, 2009, 04:31:14 pm Because it is history, it is sad that we have to drag up 1972 to have anything to brag about. Breaking it doesn't change anything except make the organization less special in one way. The current Dolphins aren't any more successful if it is broken and if you're like me you don't bring it up anyway. It isn't like if it gets broken the team is all of a sudden a new Super Bowl contender. One has no reflection on the other. Title: Re: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0? Post by: StL FinFan on December 04, 2009, 04:35:12 pm It's not a record that can be broken, only equaled.
Title: Re: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0? Post by: Phishfan on December 04, 2009, 04:38:51 pm Either way, it is wishing for your favorite team to be less special. It doesnt make sense.
Title: Re: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0? Post by: jtex316 on December 04, 2009, 04:41:44 pm I'm actually very surprised at the sheer volume of folks here who actually want to see a team go undefeated (you weren't this anxious in 2007, let me tell you).
This is actually fascinating to me. When a team does go 19-0, the Dolphins 1972 team will no longer be relevant as it is every season until the last team loses their 1st game, which basically kills the marketing and advertising strategy of the Miami Dolphins. Also, almost every Dolphins fan I've ever argued sports with plays the "Perfect Season" card within an average of 30 seconds. Every argument usually goes something like this: Joe: "Hey [Dolphins Fan], the Dolphins suck" Fan: "Hey Joe, the Giants suck too! F you!" Joe: "Well at least we [insert recent accomplishment]" Fan: "Oh yeah? Dan Marino was the MAN! Phil Simms / Jeff Hostettler / Y.A. Title / Dave Brown / Eli Manning sucks!" Joe: "So did Dan Marino? How many Super Bowls has he ever won?" Fan: "Super Bowls aren't an individual accomplishment. 1972 PERFECT SEASON!!!! IN YOUR FACE you short hairy asshole!" This will all change come Super Bowl XLIII. Title: Re: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0? Post by: Phishfan on December 04, 2009, 04:59:14 pm This is actually fascinating to me. Is it their centerpiece of marketing? No. I'd love to know what Dolphin fans you talk to who bring up the undefeated season because the only people I know who bring it up are the media this time of year and people like you. Just how Yankees fans wouldn't want someone to break DiMaggio record from way back. Title: Re: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0? Post by: Brian Fein on December 04, 2009, 07:03:44 pm Your argument is from 1998. That happened once. You've been on a rampage ever since. Shut your hole already.
YOU bring up the 1972 Dolphins FAR MORE than any 5 Dolphins' fans on these boards combined. Title: Re: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0? Post by: StL FinFan on December 04, 2009, 11:28:49 pm Just to clarify: I would rather another team not have a perfect season, but if it happens, I am not going to get terribly upset about it.

Serious... And honestly, the media part doesn't bother me, it's every non Dolphins fan who keep bringing it up that does. God, if that doesn't scream a little bit of envy... Title: Re: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0? Post by: Brian Fein on December 05, 2009, 12:04:14 pm ^^ i think you're right on here. I think non-Dolphins fans get way more bent about it than we do. I think its just jealousy.

We don't get 4 extra trophies for someone else going undefeated.Would I rather have 6 championships than 2? Sure. But since that hasn't happened, I'll take 2 championships and the only undefeated team over just 2 championships. (Similarly, I'd rather have 6 championships and the only undefeated team over 6 championships.) Title: Re: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0? Post by: ethurst22 on December 05, 2009, 07:20:52 pm Going undefeated just isn't relevant anymore.
In the todays NFL, there is a greater chance of going undefeated because of free agency. The press makes it out to be a big deal. The reason why people rose up against the Patriots was because of Spygate that year. They didn't want the Patriots to win because fans felt like they cheated their way into victories. Back in the 1970's, it tooke 3-5 years to turn a NFL team into a playoff team. Now, it can be done the next season, I don't know who will be there but history awaits. Title: Re: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0? Post by: Spider-Dan on December 06, 2009, 04:35:20 am If it's so irrelevant and so easy, why hasn't anyone done it?
Free agency has been around for 15+ years. The '07 Pats were the perfect storm of already-accomplished-franchise, ridiculous offseason acquisitions (Moss), lack of injury and (quite importantly) asshole coach. Even they couldn't pull it off. The haters try to downplay the significance of '72, but every new season proves just how special that team was. Title: Re: Why do I want the Saints and Colts to both go 18-0?
