I think you might be remember this guy a bit more fondly than his success really was in Mia.  He went 3-4.  That is a losing record.  And the Dolphins fell apart that year squandering a 9-2 season start and ending 9-7.   

Cassel has a winning record in NE.

SM also took the Lions to the playoffs twice.  He really wasn't all that great for the Dolphins nor too horrible for the Lions. 

He might've gone 3-4, but he put up some gaudy numbers.  The problem in 1993 was the defense.

Scott Mitchell fell apart in Detroit?  He was pretty good in 1995 (59.3% 4338 yds 32 TD 12 int 92.3 rating), which happened to be Barry Sanders "worse" season during his (Mitchell's) 4 seasons as a starter.  Moore and Perriman combined for 231 catches, over 3100 yards and 25 TDs that season.

I'd hardly call Mitchell's 1993 numbers "gaudy" (57%, 1773 yds, 12 TD, 8 int, 84.2 rating), but of course, I don't consider his '95 numbers to be falling about either.

Neither would Tom Brady, Joe Montana or John Elway... Aside from maybe WR, no position is more dependent on their supporting cast than QB.

I believe this explains why so many great college QBs from perennial powerhouse teams flop in the pros.

I think Cassell automatically upgrades the Detroit Lions.  They have weapons on the offensive side of the ball.  I also think he upgrades Oakland, who also has the ability to put up numbers.

I will mention some teams that Cassell instantly makes into a deep playoff threat:  Seattle, Minnesota, NY Jets, Chicago, and Tampa Bay.

Cassell > Hasselbeck?  I'm not so sure.

The Jets may be in dire need of a QB.  I hate to see the Pats pick up any draft picks, but I wouldn't mind the Jets throwing away a few more for a QB.

I would agree on Maine's assessment of every team, except Seattle as well.  Seattle's problem wasn't Hasselbeck's performance.... it was  Hasselbeck's inability to stay healthy, not to mention a few other key players on offense being unable to stay healthy as well.

Cassel had a winning record and did a great job but the O was still pretty solid with two stud receivers.  How bad was the O-line hit?  How they got Sammy Morris to produce was beyond me.  The defense still has some monsters too.  Everybody must be chewing roids with Harrison or something. 

I think it's reasonable that you have players taking pay cuts to keep Cassell...Pats seem good at doing that.  It's reasonable but I think he'll get traded.

Matt Cassel if the PATS dont franchise him , may end up in  probably backing up Jay cutler in denver.  I couls see  Daniels prying him away from Bellycheat.

Unless signed and traded, I don't think Cassel is going to go to any new team without some assurance that he'll get a chance to start.

Or draft picks for that matter.  Keep in mind he's got the franchise tag, meaning that any team that signs him has to give the Pats two first round picks.

I agree...my post was in response to the "backing up Cutler" comment above it.
