I was thinking about starting a weekly topic much in the likeness to SOTG and gameballs.  I was thinking that it would be interesting to see what people thought of the "Key Play of the Game".  The topic sometimes gets discussed, but it seems that it is more of an afterthought jumbled in with other threads.

I would imagine that there are many games that we would view the key play differently and many games that it would be more obvious, but either way I think it would be enjoyable.

Any takers?  Any leavers?

Only problem is that I normally don't touch the internet on Sunday/Monday and it would probably be better to start the topic while the game is fresh on peoples minds.  Perhaps someone else could start it if it appears there is any reasonable level of interest.

I think it is a darned good idea as well...  I expect you'll have some cross-over on that type of topic with other more general Phins game threads, but that happens now anyway, so it shouldn't be any problem at all.

Great idea.  I'll be the first participant.  Key play of the game was that 18 yard run by Lex Hilliard on 3rd and 16 deep in Carolina territory.  That one play changed the momentum of the game.

Up until that point, the Dolphins offense was sputtering.  They were managing only one first down on each of their previous drives, then having to punt.  This was their longest drive of the night, and it was about to be stuffed due to penalties.   I'm guessing they gave Hilliard the ball to try to get a few more yards closer to kick the field goal.  Instead, Hilliard shows he's got some springs in his legs and picks up the first down.  The Dolphins scored a few plays later to take a 7-3 lead and never looked back.

Tommy...when someone says they have an idea for a thread, perhaps you should let them execute that idea themselves?

Just a thought...

I am.  It's his idea, I went along with it.  If he wants to start a new thread on it, someone can move my post over.  Plain and simple.

woah - i was going to make this exact same recommendation this week!!

i think the game ball should be for overall gameplay, that way we don't have to give the game ball to the one guy who made the game-winning play but didn't do much else otherwise.

37 seconds into the video

if yb doesn't chase him down that could be a huge momentum swing in the panthers favor....and nate jones got his INT 2 or 3 plays later

Fist off, no offense is taken to this at all.  In fact, Tommy, if you would be so kind as to start the thread for me that would be great.  Essentially, whoever is online soon after a game is over could just start the topic.

Sounds like nobody is opposed and certainly some are for the idea, so lets make it happen.  I would suggest that we just wait till after the Bills game so that all the plays are fresh on our minds.

Also, I see no reason to infer that the key play would only be a play that was in the Dolphins' favor, nor do I believe that it must be in the favor of the winning team.  It is simply the one play that you would consider to be THE key play of the game.
