Speaking of Android based phones, which do you think is better?  Motorola's Droid X or HTC's Droid Incredible?

Yes, but that's a big difference.  It's much easier to get more market-share, when your OS is in many different phones from different manufacturers, as opposed to only phones you produce.  That is not necessarily a reflection of the quality of the OS.
I agree with this, but it doesn't speak much for the choice of Android over other operating systems.

I guess the end question is this:
When you go to buy a phone, do you look for software or hardware?  I think the answer varies for different people.

I really like the DroidX, but I've never used the Incredible.  Honestly, they seem quite similar to me

Personally, I don't know what drives me.

I've only really made a choice to get 4 phones in my life:
1) Generic AT&T brick.  Cheap and it worked.
2) Motorola flip phone from way back.  When it was time to upgrade, this was within my price range and small.
3) Treo - I had various versions of these, but only because my bix partner gave it to me, so when it would fail, I'd get a replacement.  I had this phone for many many years.
4) iPhone - I was wowed by the ease of use and how it seamlessly integrated with iPod, something I already used.

I'm not a guy who's got a cutting edge phone all the time.  I'm happy with the iPhone and when the battery eventually fails, I'll probably get on board with a newer model, but think I have another year or two left on this one.

I have had so many different phones, and I really think the best phone I've ever had was the Blackberry Torch.  At the same time, I think the iPhone is a good phone, but for me, who types a lot on my phone, I can't tolerate the lack of tactile keypad.  This goes for all full-touch models, which is why I like the Torch.  Its best of both worlds.

I think Android has a lot to offer and, personally, scares the crap out of me.  It is a fierce competitor in the smartphone market, and Apple and RIM should not poo-poo its existence as a threat.

I liked the Treo, except that although it could do lots of things, it wasn't intuitive.  The tactile keyboard made texting very nice.

No, not at all.  Just announcing, I guess, that Apple's got me as a fan.

When I got this little toy, I actually thought of you.  That's sad, I know...
