Good game... Miami played SF tough early, but SF just had a little too much going on for Miami to handle. Wake, as always, was a beast. One of the sites I frequent (profootballfocus.com) rates Wake as the overall best 4-3 DE in the AFC, and he looked like it today. I thought Tannehill looked pretty solid, but he's still learning...so I expect to see more ups and downs in his near future.

Props to Aldon Smith for setting the 49ers season sack record with 19. He needs 4 more in the final 3 games to break the NFL record. I wonder if we can get Favre to come out of retirement and lay down one more time...

Nice to see LaMichael James for the first time this season. He looks explosive as all hell, and I definitely look forward to seeing more from him now that Hunter is out. Our first round pick, WR A.J. Jenkins, is still occupying the side of a milk carton...the only first rounder in this class who hasn't seen the field yet.

smith will not be on the 9'ers next year

Alex is signed for two more years at a very reasonable $8 mil per season. I'd love to see someone overpay for him in trade this offseason... If we could get a second round pick out of some team (Alex is only 28 and has a favorable contract...I could see it), that would give us 5 picks in the first 3 rounds next year. Of course, our first rounder will be the final pick of the round... Grin

I don't completely understand. You are willing to place a lot of blame on Thigpen for making a big mistake, but you are not putting as much of the blame or more on Tannehill for multiple mistakes?

Tannehill didn't make a mistake that gift wrapped SF a TD

Thigpen's mistake cost us 7 points. Tannehill played pretty good considering his blocking, play calling, and receiver corp.

Hartline, Fasano, and Bess are NOT TOO BAD of a receiving corp.

Take it from a football stats junkie who isn't a Miami homer... If Miami doesn't have THE WORST receiving corps in the NFL, they are definitely bottom-3. It is Miami's single most glaring need at this point. Receiver upgrade isn't the only need (DB, OL, etc...)...but it's definitely the most severe.

While the Phins obviously need some defensive personnel, if they had a much better receiving corp, they'd easily have a two digit winning season with the way the defense plays.

Yep! Teams with worse defenses than Miami have won super bowl recently. It's an offensive league and you need playmakers at WR and TE to win. Period.

I dunno. Aren't both Hartline and Bess on pace for near 1000 yard seasons? How many teams can say that? I think the "glaring weakness" is still the secondary, as it has been for a while now. -EK

I disagree a little here.  His down field throws were off the mark.  Now, it doesn't help his "down field" receivers aren't really "down field" threats, but Tannehill, late in the game, was off the mark.  Was was he, late in the game?  0-7?  0-8?  That's pretty big.  He needs to be better.
