Read an interesting article on Fox Sports webpage today about Marlin Briscoe, who I don't remember.  He was the 1st starting black QB in the NFL, played a few games for Denver before being forced out.  He went on to play wide receiver for the Dolphins and won two Super Bowls with the Fins.  Anybody remember this guy playing for the Fins back in the early 70's?

Slight correction, he was the first black starting QB in the AFL. When Briscoe played QB, the merger had not happened yet. An NFL starting black QB would not happen until after the merger.

The Dolphins SB teams were before my memory but I did know Briscoe played WR for them.

I've got his football card from '72.  Gonna have to dig it up and look at it again.

Correction to the correction, the merger actually occurred in 1966, following which the AFL and NFL started playing against each other in Super Bowls.  Briscoe started in 1968.  So to say he wasn't the first NFL black starting QB is like saying the first four Super Bowls played are not part of the current NFL record books because they were played against said AFL teams.  However, I get your point that it was not until 1970 that the two leagues integrated their schedules and adopted the "NFL" name as the merged name.

I remember his jersey # with Miami was 86.  I remember the name and the occasional clip from NFL films but I know very little about the guy without looking up his stats.  I remember him being ONE of the first Black QB's in the AFL, I don't remember him really being THE first Black QB in the AFL...  I know he was with Denver for awhile and Miami and somebody else.

He is the only player to be intercepted by a Patriot player AND catch a TD as a Patriot receiver.
