Apparently he had gotten a good grip on beating back his addictions before his death...... but once an addict, always an addict.

Very sad, as he was an extremely talented pitcher. If you field an All-Star team of all the players with addictions, they would be undefeated.

Dwight Gooden starting. Strawberry in RF. Howe as your closer. Rose as...whatever position he played. Schilling as your 2nd starter(Everquest addiction).

Otis Nixon in CF.  Keith Hernandez at 1B, Wally Backman at 2B.  Kevin Mitchell as your DH.

Shit, let's just call it the 1986 Mets  Evil

David Ortiz addicted to donuts as the DH. Darren Daulton addicted to being insane as the catcher.

How about two other former Phils- Lenny Dykstra as your CF and John Kruk as your 1B. Dykstra had a painkiller addiction, as well as drinking. Kruk was a big time drinker. In fact, there are rumors that they used to drink beers in the locker room prior to games in 93. Sometimes they'd never go home- they'd start drinking after a game in the locker room and spend the whole night drinking and just sleep a few hours in the locker room before the next game.

Then add Darren Daulton to that list.  He could be the starting catcher.
