Porter leaves practice field

By Edgar Thompson | Monday, August 25, 2008, 12:29 PM

Linebacker Joey Porter stretched with the team, but did not participate during the opening segment of practice.

Porter, who has battled a few ailments (back, knee, ankle) during camp, left the field and did not return during the 30 minutes the media is allowed to watch.

Charlie Anderson, who missed nearly two weeks with a hamstring injury, lined up at weakside linebacker with the first-team defense.

Cornerback Joey Thomas did not practice for an unknown reason and rode the exercise bike. Thomas seemed to lock up a spot on the team last week when it traded Travis Daniels.

Linebacker Edmond Miles, who left Saturday’s shutout win against Kansas City with a knee injury, was also at practice.

There also was a new player working with the team, an enormous offensive line wearing No. 78. I don’t think Anthony Munoz or Jackie Slater has come out of retirement.

Will get back to you with updates on Porter, Thomas and the mystery player after Tony Sparano speaks at around 2 p.m.
