What do you do to return standing to your university, if anything?  Business as usual?

With the new info that came to light yesterday, it seems as if there was a culture at Penn State that put the health of the school over the health of the kids.  Therefore, I think that the university is going to suffer for a long, long time -- longer if they don't take this head on and deal with it.

- I would close the football program for a year.  Next year, no Penn State football at all.
- I would release anyone related to the previous program and hire an entirely new staff.
- I would remove any idolizing of Joe Paterno or that staff from the school or stadium -- statues, plaques, etc.  Gone.

And though this will piss a lot of donors, students, and others off, I think that you have to wipe the state clean.  Otherwise, who's going to send their kids there?  Who's going to donate money there?  Long term, I think it would be for the best.

The only people who knew about it are all already gone.  Why would you fire the remaining staff?

And based on what happened to SMU after the death penalty, PSU's "soiled reputation" couldn't possibly be as damaging as what closing your football program for a year does.

Considering the school saw record donations this last year, it is clear that a soiled reputation will not hurt the school as much as even one season without football would.

I agree with all this except the shutting down of the football program.  That does nothing but hurt the kids futures, especially the seniors.  If those who want the football program shut down because it's a cash cow, then find a fine line in between.  Maybe for the first year, the school should donate its entire football revenue (revenue, not profit) to charities that help children who have been abused and molested.  For the next ten years, the school should donate a percentage of that revenue.  This way, the football program can continue to operate under new management but the school still feels the financial sting.

Wow.   They named me president of a university...

1.  Anyone having anything to do with the Sandusky/Paterno incident.  Every administrator.  Every asshole on the board.  You're all fired.  I don't care how tenured you are.  You've proven as a collective that you're untrustworthy, unethical, and quite honestly I don't see how I can look myself in the mirror and be associated with any of you.
2.  I'm suspending football indefinately.  Goodbye coaching staff.  Players, this isn't your fault but you happened to be here when the shit hit the fan.  You can transfer to any school you wish and we will petition the NCAA to allow you to keep your scholarship so you don't get dicked over by that stupid ass rule.
3.  I'm taking down or moving any reference to any past or present logo, athletic symbol or any other image associated with the football program.
4.  I'm changing the school/team nickname and colors.
5.  I'm going around personally to every victim and every member of their family and apologizing for my predecessors being total fuckheads.
6.  IF I bring the football program back, I give half of what it generates to the victims, we set up a fund.  The other half goes to law enforcement/social agencies who work to combat this disgraceful behavior.
7.  I ban NAMBLA from campus.
8.  I take the Freeh report and wipe my ass with it.  You can't have a private investigator show up after the others involved are in jail or dead and expect to get anywhere.  Too little, too late, it was a stupid ass idea and I don't want to be associated with it.
