It was in the news recently that some millionaire,wants to send a bunch of ordinary people to Mars in 2018,to be the first to people to live there...(gist of the story)

The down side...Never coming back to Earth...

Would you do it?


Me:I would probably do it...But...
1.) Positive- I'm not married,have no kids...My family,other than my Mom...F-em...Bye bye...can't say it's been wonderful.

2.) Negative- IMO,I wouldn't bring enough to the table,I'm not particularly useful for any reason living on Mars...

3.) Negative- Age with not being very useful I'd be turning 43 the year we left,4 years travel 47 by the time we get there...

4.&5.&6.)
Three-fer Negative- I'm not big on flying,so space travel  Undecided
I don't think they would let me bring a dog/s
I'm an introvert,and have ZERO interest being on a reality show,and would be horrible to watch...

I'd go, but here's the thing...

I'd want a guarantee that we're going to get there.  I am certain that the technology to get passengers to Mars hasn't been developed yet, let alone ready for passengers by 2018.  I'd also want to bring certain things and I'd hope that there'd be further shuttles with other people and supplies coming every 1-2 years.  I'd also want communication back to Earth.

The trip out would be incredible, but once you are there, what do you do?  I sounds terribly boring.  The rest of your life stuck in a big soup can.

Everyone seems to have a pretty good idea of what folks would do on Mars, which is kind of funny, since nobody's actually ever been to Mars. Grin

Hell no, not with our current technology. The trip would more than likely be boring and long, stuck in a small vessel. What am I going to do all day other than freak-out and hope the ship doesn't get a slight bit of a rip in it. Once I get there, it might be OK, but I'd still be a bit paranoid that something would happen (run out of air, something breaks down, etc...).

The ONLY reason why I would go is if I would be the first person to do it.

No.  I would respect anyone who chose to do it, but especially now that I've had a child, I'd have no interest.

Had I been asked before marriage and children, then yes, I'd love to go.

However, I imagine that the first lot of folk over there would more or less be guinea pigs living on borrowed time before some kind of accident occurred.  It's not like anyone could send help if something went wrong.
