I normally don't take stuff like this, but I've been having problems with my knees.  ...basketball and a high school knee-injury are taking their toll.  I am fine while I'm exercising, but for the next two days, I have trouble walking down a flight of stairs.

So, I picked up a joint-lubricant.  ...I have to take it for 8 weeks before I should notice a difference.

So, the question is -- does anyone else take any supplements, and if so, how have your results been?

Took creatine for 6 mos. for muscle build up.  It worked,  but I have to switch to something else,  recently found out that prolonged usage could damage kidneys.

I used to take glucosamine for my joints...but nowadays, that's about as effective as treating bubonic plague with aspirin.

I hear if you rub the clear vinegar on your pecker and it turns white you have genital warts. And remember kids knowing is half the battle. Tongue

But on a serious note I took hydroxycut about 4 years ago and boy that shit makes you lose weight fast! But some time after a few months, every now and then, I would have these wierd feelings where it felt like I was super fucking drunk wanting to black out. Cut that shit out awhile after that night.

I can't tell if your serious but this is complete BS. Creatine is one of the safest supplements to ever take but it can wreck your liver if you overdose on it.  As a matter of fact if you take more than 5mg a day all you are doing is pissing it out and overworking your liver as your body won't absorb it. More is not better for anyone but the manufacturer who is getting paid.  This is where the liver damage comes from ... not length of time in use.  You can also suffer dehydration and cramping if you don't drink enough water but in no case is your "manhood" ever in any danger nor does it cause acne or "roid rages" as it is not even close to being a steroid.  Creatine only allows your muscles to absorb more water (this is why more water is needed or you dehydrate) and thus allows them to work harder and not exhaust as easily.

Someone also told me about the liver damage too CF,  nonetheless I'm gonna try out the whey.  Heard it was also good for muscle build up.  Nice to know more about the creatine though.  Thx!

Well,

A friend of mine qualified in Healing Sports Injuries, i'm not saying that i hold his knowledge or anything, but maybe i could suggest something?

Knee injuries are one of the most difficult to heal, and if the proper rehabilitation isn't conducted you can and will suffer from it the rest of your life (listen up Daunte! Grin).

What exactly happened with the injury if you dont mind me asking? And how long you actually rested it for, before participating in sports again?

As im sure you know how bad a state your joints will be from constantly playing on hard surfaces (basketball), normally whats best for these things is a minimum of 6 months off (similar to Shin Splints or another impact injury) along with a proper rehab program. I assume that this injury happened a number of years ago, maybe it never healed properly?

I wouldn't say there's any kind of quick fix for this, but maybe seeing a specialist who can recommend a proper therapy/rehabilitation program?

Remember i'm just offering an opinion, and i'd sooner do that than dose myself with Bottled Solutions!

I was playing a game called ManHunt about 13 years ago.  It is basically hide and seek, with teams.  I had freed one of my teammates and was running from the other team, and jumped into some bushes for cover.  Hidden in there was the base of a plant that had spikes up the trunk.  I hit my knee into the spikes when it was bent, then the spikes broke off and I straightened my knee.

I was on crutches for a few days, and while we got most of the spikes out that night, one stayed in there for a month or more before coming out on its own.

I used to have more problems with that knee when it would get cold.

Shit that still sounds painful 13 years on, and it doesnt seem like the kind of thing that Joint Lubrication would heal.

I think that type of treatment would be more suited to the likes of Osteoarthritis, to help replace Articular Cartilage that has worn away through years of sports playing.

This could be more a case of muscular damage, and im not even gonna offer any suggestion on that! I'd go and see a Specialist man!

Maybe I'm making this sound worse than it is.  Both of my knees get sore after playing (and I only injured the one).  I think that you may be right about some scar tissue damage or something, but it's probably not related to pains after basketball.

The thing is that my knees aren't a problem on the court.  It's only after I cool down, do they start tightening up.  It might just be me aging, because this didn't happen 10 years ago.

Whey is a protein and you should be taking it to build muscle no matter what else you are taking.  You should take 1.5 times your body weight in protein throughout the day. 200 lb man should take in 300 grams of protein a day if he is working to build muscle.  You should also be taking a slow protein at bedtime that does not digest quickly like whey. This will keep your body from fasting overnight and actually burning muscle mass. For instance a casein protein blended with whey will last about 8 hours.  Word of warning though ... it tastes much worse than a whey protein.

Creatine helps out significantly but you can live without as your body already creates it.  I don't reccomend you working out for strength and not taking in enough protein under any circumstance. Unless getting skinny is your goal and losing muscle mass I'd suggest you keep on top of the protein. I actually know trainers who won't "train" if you refuse to keep up your protein intake.

Actually for any info on supplements, workouts and even steroids you can check out bodybuilding .com or probodybuilding .com. Of course you might have to wade through the teenagers BS that is posted but there is a massive amount of info on physical health.
