I hate this stuff. I don't mind the ads in the comic book, but not in the story themselves.

It never ceases to amaze me when I see sh*t like this.  And I thought the naming of stadiums was at its worst.  Jeeeeesus.

If it doesn't change the story and keeps the price down then I don't see the problem with a logo on a car or shirt.

Yeah, this doesn't bother me.  So long as it's not "Quick!  We must stop Destructo!  Let's get to my Pontiac Solstice" I don't really care.  It's dumb and lame, but it's not outrageous or anything.

Yeah I can see it now
Person 1: "WHAT, WE MUST STOP HIM!!!!"
Person 2: "Ok let's go"
Person 1: "We should take the Hummer"
Person 2: "Yeah, its possible 4 wheel drive will help us get across the rocky terrain"
Person 1: "And at (insert price here) it's a bargain!"
Person 2: "Let's go right away"

if this kind of thing bothers you, don't watch michael bay's "the Island." good movie, but holy shit was there some seriously sickening product placement in that one. (example: the movie takes place in the distant future, yet they are still playing XBOX?)

it's not until we as a country stop responding so predictably to marketing that this kind of thing goes away. (not that it will ever happen)

It's not that i have a major issue with it. I understand about the need to market ones product. I understand the need to sell advertising to raise money, but there comes a point where its just too much. And, just as in the movies, they are already lacking the talent there once was in the comic book industry so to flood the pages with products just seems unreasonable.

Some may say they aren't flooded..well, they aren't right now, but watch out.

Speaking of the distant future and playing XBOX, how about the future in Demolition Man. Taco Bell???

Yeah, we all know the future will be ruled by Wendy's, not Taco Bell!

Oh, is it just me?

I don't mind products existing in movies.  I'd much rather drink a "Coke" than a white can that says COLA on it in black letters.

However, the idea of product placement goes directly against the point of television/movies/comics/games/etc.  The idea behind these forms of entertainment is to immerse the viewer so that they are removed from their reality.  Any reminder that they're watching a game/movie/etc. is a poor job on the part of the creators.  With product placement, the idea is that you prominantly place things so that the viewer takes note.   ...which is a mistake.

One of the worst instances of product placement I've ever seen was in Smallville.  Clark has "Old Spice" in his locker, but the shot is so distracting...it's like Clark's head next to a giant stick of "Old Spice".  Then, they had big banners all over the stadium.  Normally, that wouldn't bother me, but when it's so obvious what they're doing that it makes you stop and recognize it, it's gone too far.
