So the Ravens agree to a deal to send him there.   In return, the Raiders get the Ravens first rounders in '26 and '27.   Four days later, the Ravens back out of the trade citing a failed physical.   Now, I know physicals cannot be performed without the trade being official and trades can't become official until later today.

So my question is, what the hell is going on here?

You got that backwards! Almost all trades are conditional on the physical so the trade doesn't become official until after the physical.

But trades can't be executed until the start of the new league year (today).

EDITED TO ADD:

Now I'm getting more info.   There was no actual physical performed.   Supposedly the Cowboys team doctor who performed surgeries on Patrick Mahomes and Micah Parsons, reviewed the images of Crosby's knee and gave a less than optimistic report.  The Ravens read that report and that's what scared them into backing out.

Not to mention that Crosby was saying he had his meniscus "trimmed" when in reality, it was a full on repair which will probably keep him out of spring OTAs and possibly the June minicamp.

Hence why the physical took place before today, so the trade could be official on day 1.

No physical was performed.   But you have to wonder, did the Ravens back out of the deal because they were able to sign Hendrickson or were they truly concerned about the medical report.

Maybe the team doctor examining the x-rays and other data from Maxx' recent injury actually "is" the first step in the team's physical.

Hmmm...   Evil

Maybe the Ravens owner stepped in and said "what are you crazy giving up two 1st rounders for an aging injured player" and told the GM to get out of the deal.

Especially when they could fill that pass rush need by signing Trey Hendrickson and give up only money.
