I didn't have HBO last August so I didn't get a chance to watch any of the Hard Knocks episodes last year, but I saw a link yesterday and watched the first 4 episodes back to back last night. I really enjoyed the whole thing. If you haven't had a chance to watch them yet, I suggest you
check it out.
Couple of observations:
- The tone of camp really changes as it goes on from class clown CJ and rookie hazings being the show in the beginning to the seriousness of Garrard's injury and the first round of cuts in episode 4.
- I had forgotten that Tannehill was a hold out for the first 3 days of camp which makes his rise to starter for game 1 even more impressive in hindsight.
- Wondering whatever happened to Les Brown. Did he give up on a career in the NFL or still trying to make it on a team?
- I'm even more impressed with Philbin after watching this. He just always looks so in control of everything and I love the subtle way that he gets his point across without seeming preachy. I noticed that when he brought in Tannehill to give him the news that he was gonna be the starter that first he notices that the rookies shoes are untied and lets him know and then tells him how there's gonna be all this hoopla about him being named the starter and how he needs to handle it.
- I got a much better appreciation for the job the position coaches do. Philbin and Sherman get all the credit, but the position coaches are really the ones that prepare the players day in and day out.
