this was a few days ago but i just thought about sharing it

I smell a brawl the next time Hillenbrand and Beckett face each other

Ball Buzz: Hillenbrand in spat with Beckett
False start gets minor feud going
Lawton returns to duty with Seattle

It seems that Shea Hillenbrand and Josh Beckett have differences that go beyond the fact that the Toronto DH is an animal lover while the Boston Red Sox pitcher enjoys hunting four-legged creatures for sport.

Hillenbrand isn't pleased that Beckett called him out after Tuesday's game for starting to head to first base after a 3-1 pitch on which the plate umpire delayed his strike call.

Beckett said something to reporters about "playing the game right" while Hillenbrand responded to the quote with an expletive in what one Boston reporter called a "war of words."

"How many walks do you see me draw in a season?" Hillenbrand said yesterday. "I mean, you saw how long it took (the umpire) to call it a strike.

"I've played this game for a long time and no one has ever questioned my ability to play it right."

When another reporter approached Hillenbrand, he said, "I've only got one answer to any question about Beckett: (expletive) him!

"The only person he made look bad is himself. I'm not concerned about it."

PHILLIPS CLEAR: The Jays will get to keep the services of catcher Jason Phillips. He managed to clear waivers yesterday — a somewhat unexpected development given the demand for catchers around the league — and was outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse.

Yeah, rumors about Beckett being a prick have been around for awhile now. However, you know who else are pricks? Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling. Schilling has been hated by a lot of his old teammates, but he has two rings and 3 World Series appearances. Similar stats for Clemens and Randy. You take the good with the bad.

Oh, and Wells of course.

LMAO. Nice. I am enjoying the smackdown that the Jays are laying on the Sox right now.

I've been around a lot of club houses through the years, all pitchers are a different breed.  Baseball players in general have their weird things, pitchers more so.  Even Wakefield is a jerk on days that he pitches.  I can say this - Josh Beckett is a close and personal friend, he was an usher in my wedding.  The guy, away from the field, is the nicest man you could meet.  On the field?  Not so much.

Hillenbrand has little to no ground to stand on, he was THE biggest asshole when he played for the Sox - and I told him that to his face once when he made a female reporter from Hartford feel like shit.  Boston ran him because of it, Arizona ran him because of it and Toronto tried to run him because of it.  The guy is a flat out dick - and I can speak to that on personal experience.  And that's on and off the field, he's just the classic red ass.
