he sounded like kermit the frog

And if Gumbel started off each broadcast by singing

"Why are there so many songs about rainbows...,"

...he'd probably still have his job today. Wink

I think Phil Simms and Joe Thiesmen are just as bad.

You're comparing apples to oranges. Bryant Gumble is a play-by-play announcer. Simms and Theisman are color commentators. Actually, Gumble could probably be a better color guy...but then his credibility would be 0, since he's never played 1 NFL down in his life.

I'm doing a dance in my mind.  This Gumble is no where near the caliber of Greg.

Who was worse?  Bryant Gumbel or Dennis Miller?

Gumble, by far, but again - apples and oranges.  Dennis Miller was not a play-by-play guy, he was comic relief (not even to be a color commentator).

I don't have the NFL Network, so I haven't heard his work during a sporting event in years. I do really enjoy his show "Real Sports" though. They get some really interesting stuff on there.

Actually, I liked his comic relief.... but you had to know a great deal about history and art to understand it.

"The Patriots and Jets have a rivalry more bloodier and murkier than the House of Plantagenet"

"Baltimore's defense will wrap you up like Christo"

"It's great to be in Canton, the Tigris and Euphrates of football"

Ditto. Miller was hilarious if you have a little knowledge outside generic US history classes.

^^  Good call on Dennis Miller bsmooth and Tommy!!  Miller ALWAYS made me laugh ALOT during his Monday Night Football games.  I thought he did a good job in the MNF booth calling games.  The guy is friggin hilarious! Grin
As far as Bryant Gumbel goes, I am GLAD he will not be calling the games on the NFL network anymore.  The guy is way to boring to be calling football games. Wink
