Ayodele is starting material, and Fasano was stuck behind Witten.  So, the jury is still out on him.

Fasano was rumored to being demoted to 3rd string & Aydele is an aging LBer.

Just what Miami needed for a draft pick.

Dallas Cowboys deal Ayodele, Fasano to Dolphins for 4th-round pick

IRVING - On the eve of the NFL draft, the connection between the Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins grew even stronger with a trade that sends tight end Anthony Fasano and linebacker Akin Ayodele to Miami for a fourth-round pick, according to two sources.

The move alleviates a logjam at linebacker after the Cowboys signed Zach Thomas in February but creates an opening at tight end behind Pro Bowler Jason Witten.

Fasano was a second-round pick in 2006 when the Cowboys were moving to more two-tight end sets under then coach Bill Parcells, who is now Miami's executive vice president. In two seasons, Fasano had 28 catches for 269 yards and a touchdown and is coming off reconstructive shoulder surgery.

Ayodele, an Irving native, returned to his hometown team two years ago as a free agent from Jacksonville and started 30 of 32 games, including two playoff contests. He had 106 tackles in 2006 and 95 last season, but he became somewhat expendable when the team signed Thomas, who was a seven-time Pro Bowler with the Dolphins.

By picking up the Dolphins' selection, the Cowboys essentially recouped the fourth rounder they will send to Tennessee in the Pacman Jones' trade and moved up 26 spots.

Entering today's draft, the Cowboys will hold picks Nos. 22, 28, 61, 92, 100, 163, 167 and 235.

The trade continues the Dallas-to-Miami connection that started when Parcells joined the Dolphins late last season. Jeff Ireland left the Cowboys to become Miami's general manager and was followed by pro personnel director Brian Gaine. Tony Sparano left to become the Dolphins' head coach and added assistants Paul Pasqualoni, Todd Bowles and Kacy Rodgers.

Why they did this is beyond me.  Trading a 4th rounder for a has-been and a never-will-be.

Still, I trust Tuna's judgment until he gives me a reason not to.

Because he signed & drafted them..

I'm hoping for Bobby Carpenter for a 3rd tomorrow.

He has given you two now.   Basically 2 6th for an injured Ferguson was Numero uno.

Fasano played behind the best tight end in the NFL in Witten.  Besides Witten, Romo had TO, Crayton, Glenn plus his rbs as weapons.  Hardly room for Fasano to shine with that group of talent.  He is a good YOUNG tight end.  Compared to David Martin, I will take Anthony Fassano any day.

I think this is an alright trade....It's 4th round pick....We got 2 players, that will more than likely make the team...Versus some unknown guy that might not make the team, I also feel like we may trade down somewhere and get back a pick or two in the second day.....

Fasano has some upsside, and fits in with the youth movement quite nicely IMO...

I think this is a little bit of a stretch...I'd give Witten top-5 status, maybe even top-3, but best in the NFL?

I do like this trade though, simply because I think Fasano is a better TE than his numbers so far, and as good as any young TE we'd get in the 4th rd (unless Cottam is still there in rd 4). Not sure what Ayodele has left, but Fasano should be a good fit.
