Ricky predicts 9 wins, a double 1,000-yard backfield and 4 more years

By Tim Graham | Friday, June 27, 2008, 02:27 PM

Ricky Williams has offered bold predictions for 2008.

He proclaimed the Dolphins will win “at least nine games” and he and Ronnie Brown each plan to run for 1,000 yards this year.

That’s what he told our sister paper, the Austin American-Statesman, on Thursday at a gathering of Heisman Trophy winners in the Texas capital.

If Williams and Brown could accomplish the feat, they would become only the fourth backfield mates in NFL history to do so.

In the story, Williams also noted how Dave Wannstedt’s clumsy reaction cinched his decision to retire and addressed a new philosophy denying his urges for marijuana.

“I definitely trust myself,” he said. “It’s been a long time (since he has smoked marijuana). Do I miss it? I can’t miss it. If you say you miss it, you’re going to do it.”

Williams also said he still has four more years of NFL football left in him and is quoted in an Associated Press report from the same Heisman event that his goal is to re-establish himself as a reliable and responsible teammate.

“It was never something I thought about until it turned into a negative legacy,” Williams said. “Now it’s my responsibility to make the life of my family and my children better (by) leaving the game on a positive note. … I think people need to know I’m dependable.”

Williams also noted his desire to let others “see how I’ve matured and that I’m OK.”

Once he’s done with the NFL, he said he plans to return to the University of Texas to finish his education degree and then study to become an osteopathic physician and teach people about holistic medicine.

“When I retired and I had a chance to be by myself outside of being a football player, I found I enjoy helping people and I had a gift for making people feel better,” Williams said.

At least it is positive news!  I just don't really understand how this article could be accurate considering what we have heard directly from Ricky in the past few months.  If these statements prove over time to be true, it could be a great story and Ricky could actually have a positive influence on kids and adults that need to grow up.

The other side to this is that Ricky was one hell of a back in his past and if he thinks they really have a chance at a double 1,000 yard rushing backfield, I will take notice of those comments.  Especially from a guy that usually makes absolutely no predictions and gives the company line of "I just go out and play football the best I can".

I hope your right Ricky!  It would be for the best of you and the team.

He probably just took a look at how Dallas used to use Jones/ Barber, and figured him and Ronnie can do the same thing.

Come to think about it Ricky and Ronnie have come close before in 2005. Ronnie got injured but had  907 yards and Ricky was suspended at the beginning of the year but finish with 743 yards. With the new offensive line and a healthy season by both guys, I guess it could be possible for a double 1,000 yard duo.
