Defense, go back and read what you wrote and see how one is supposed to draw the conclusion that you are referring to law enforcement. I don't remember what everyone on the boards does for a living, so that you are in law enforcement didn't even enter my mind. It reads as racist, plain and simple.

Back on topic ... I honestly see McCain winning for the simple reason that people will vote their heart and not what people want them to say.  

My 11 daughter has been called a racist for not liking Obama as well I have been called a racist.  There is a  pressure to "like" Obama and for many people it isn't worth being honest. While I don't lie I do understand the temptation.   It's called the Bradley effect. It refers to a frequently observed discrepancy between voter opinion polls and election outcomes in American political campaigns when a white candidate and a non-white candidate run against each other.  According to Wikipedia the theory for the Bradley effect is that some white voters give inaccurate polling responses for fear that, by stating their true preference, they will open themselves to criticism.  This has proven to be true many times.

For others ... they are just closet racists and won't vote for a minority no matter who they are.

I still hold to this theory and predict when he loses the "racist" chants will scream much louder than the economy is right now.  The only problem is that expectations wouldn't have been so high had people been able to be honest before. It is possible to actually respect minorities and disapprove of their politics.

Sorry Dave, this is just normal civility. If someone says something you don't understand then you simply ask the person to explain it. Being attacked and called an asshole from every direction here is not exactly gonna open up my dialoge any. I guess I should have know better from the way past discussions have gone here. Worst thing I ever did was letting my employment known. Talk about a hanging jury.  I can't even express an honest opinon here without being surrounded by Indains......opps......did I make another racial reference?

Words of advice because yes you do get piled on when you make a mistake ... just ignore it and walk away.  It never gets settled anyway.
