Time to deal Beck to Cowboys for Austin?

It's now or never. It's time to get a big-play receiver to give Chad Pennington a fighting chance to get the ball downfield to a wideout other than Greg Camarillo.

The Cowboys are hurtin' after Tony Romo went down with a broken finger yesterday. He's out for about a month and his replacement is 40-year-old Brad Johnson and nondescript Brooks Bollinger. The Cowboys have a surplus of quality, tall athletic receivers. No, TO and Tuna don't mix and he's not for sale. Either is TE Jason Witten or the blossoming Patrick Crayton.

But how about Miles Austin? He's 6-3ish and fast. He brutalized the Seahawks last postseason on kickoffs so he's got the versatility that Tony Sparano craves. He was hand picked by the Dolphins regime three years ago - an undrafted kid out of Joisey as in Monmouth. Parcells loves Jersey guys. Austin's averaging 23 yards a catch on eight catches with 3 TDs or more than the entire Dolphins receiving corps.

The Dolphins have no need for TE Tony Gonzalez with Anthony Fasano on the cusp of stardom. The Lions seem to be hanging on to WR Roy Williams. So beggars can't be choosy.

Of course we have to believe GM Jeff Ireland, who last summer told us that the Cowboys had Beck high on their draft board when he was available two Aprils ago. Beck needs another "new beginning.''

C'mon Jerry. Make the call. Tuna's waiting.

Whatcha think? Beck for Austin? How about the Fins throwing in Ernest Wilford?

Getting anything for Beck beats having him on the roster.

^ exactly....He's not a veteran QB,and it would take him a too long to learn the playbook...by the time He learns the playbook..Romo's Back...If Beck was a veteran, experienced QB..I could see it...

Why would the Boys trade Austin?  They are in need of Wr play anyway.

Not happening.

Just to piss people off.  Since Miami sec. is playing poorly.

Miami could have had Eric Wright instead of Beck.   Grin

We should see if the Cowboys would put a Romo/Owens package together for Beck and Wilford.  If they say no, we can throw in Chris Crocker to really tilt the scales.

I third that motion.  While I like the idea of this trade, it aint gonna happen.  Dallas would not want a 27 year old QB with 4 games starting experience who takes sacks, fumbles like there's no tomorrow, and has that deer-in-the-headlights look.

Probably would not have that problem behind a quality line in Dallas.

There is not a QB around that would not have those problems when they have no running game or a quality Wr or TE to throw too or a line that could protect them longer than it takes to swipe a pass card to get through the turnstile.

I'd almost say Detroit would be more likely than Dallas because they were thinking about putting Kitna on IR...Then I remembered they drafted a kid (I just checked,Drew Stanton) so there goes that possibility....

Just for kicks,Say we did trade John beck...Who would we pick up to replace him?

I mean Chad Pennington isn't known as Mr Durable, then we bring in Henne to start..but we'd still need another back up...The hatred for Beck aside,it still might be worth keeping him around ...just in case....

P.S. don't even Say Culpepper....

I think, of all teams, the Patriots are in the biggest need of a QB, more than Detroit, more than Dallas.

Just my opinion, but I think the rookie they drafted this year, Kevin O'Connell, is a significantly better prospect than Beck...
