Every ref makes mistakes from time to time.

Hochuli made a huge one and is now under the microscope.

He hasn't done anything since to warrant the type of scrutiny he get on every call he makes.  Because of the screw up in Denver everyone considers it open season on him anytime he makes a call that doesn't favor their favorite team.

That's because that "Huge" one was so obvious and the results drastically changed the games outcome and possibly the playoff picture.  Fuck Ed. He should be fined the $10,000 not Joey Porter.

Hey Denver.........how does Eds balls taste?  Tongue

If my memory serves me correct.  He was behind Cutler ( Rolled out to his right ) so IMO he could not see when the ball actually comes out of his hands.    With the "Protect the QB" initiative handed down by the league to the Ref, he blew the play dead.

Now, because of that everyone else had the reverse view it was painfully obvious that it was a fumble.  So now everyone is questioning every call he makes that is close.

I'd still rather have him ref a Phins game then any other ref.  The guy is good.

I do find it funny, that such a big deal was make of his mistake, but in the Dallas/Philly game the Eagles Wr grabbed the DB jersey  ( Henry ) & pulled Henry into him to get a interference call & the ball at the 1.  The ref?  Was standing behind the WR & could not see the actual play, but because of his position it looked like defensive interference.  When it should have been offensive.

The difference between the two plays?   One happened early in the game & the other happened at the end of the game.

There are certain referees (Jeff Tripplete) who would be improved by a factor of 25 with one training session with Ed Hoculi. It's time to get off of Hoculi's ass - he fucked up a couple of times, so what? Hoculi is year in and year out one of the best NFL officials. He knows the rules, and knows how to explain the rules (to teams and during penalties) so that everyone understands.

Refereeing a variety of sports (Kickball, flag-football, basketball), I can tell you that Hoculi is the man. He can fuck up 10 more big calls this year, he is still a top NFL official.

Great Post Dphins4me....Ed Hochuli is by far, the BEST ref in the NFL...I would  prefer him to officiate a Miami game over any other Ref in the league!!!
