Where will Matt Cassel be next year?

Whoever it is will have to bring the bucks.  Maybe Cleveland will have a 40-man roster to have three QBs making an average of 7 million a year.  Of these teams mentioned, who has cap space?

Now this question looms largely for the Pats front office.  Tom Brady's knee rehab has suffered some major setbacks, and he may not be ready for 2009.  What do you do here?  Do you put the franchise tag on Matt Cassel and guarantee him upwards of $14 million next season?  Do you try to sign him to a smaller deal?  Do you let him walk as an FA and try your luck in the draft?

I am in the minority among Patriots fans, but here is what I do.  Sign him to a 6 year deal and trade Brady for some other teams entire draft.

He's going to the Bucs...Garcia is done there...they aren't sold on McCown...Griese sucks donkey balls...that leaves Josh Johson?  Don't think so...I will say that Cassel will fail as a Buc..but that's where I think he's going.

This is a great idea...except no one is going to pay an entire draft for a 32 year old QB who is experiencing complications on recovery from extremely serious knee surgeries (note the pluralization).

This falls right in with some 'Phins fans last year wanting to trade Jason Taylor for a pair of first rounders.

Actually, he might not suck as bad as you think as a Buc.  Tampa's got some serious talent on offense that he could work with.  He's got a better arm than Garcia.

^  I agree...Bryant is a beast...Stevens is playing well...but neither of them are Randy Moss, arguable the greatest WR in NFL history (notice I said arguably...we don't need another Randy Moss/Jerry Rice flame war) or a Wes Welker to compliment that...that's why I think he will fail there...that and Gruden ruins QBs careers....that is if Gruden is around next year.

Yeah, he's probably not worth it in terms of abilities, but as a 1-year insurance deal, it'd be worth it.

I don't know if New England has the cap space to make that deal work.  If they franchise him, he's guaranteed $14 million MINIMUM.  If another team signs him, they have to give the Pats two first round picks.

the best thing the pats could do for the rest of the NFL is to franchise cassel and blow that money on QB #2 while still paying brady .. brady-money ..

dishing out almost $30 mil in cap space for the QB position rules !

You may not get much for Brady due to uncertainty about his knee, but I don't see how you do anything but gain from doing this. You already have a Qb in place who's proven to be a competent, if not excellent, replacement, and you stand to gain a draft pick!

What's the big loss? Maybe fan appreciation for what Brady's done, but I bet they'd get over it pretty quickly if Cassel starts out as hot next year as he's finishing this year.

This year, Cassel is finishing off the season by missing the playoffs. Last year, Brady finished the season by capping a 16-0 record and setting a number of NFL offensive records.

Nothing against Cassel, because I would love to see him in SF...but he hasn't done nearly as well as Brady has, nor is he likely to in the future, imo.

I would demand the moon.  But take it in conditionals.  That way if Brady is healthy Pats get full value in return.  If it turns out Brady isn't healthy Pats don't receive much more than cap space relief.
