Say we have the opportunity to draft a new CB or S, and they turn out to be a decent player, who drops off the list.  It seems like everyone is getting their share of burned, but it has a lot to do with who they're matched up with.  I don't expect Will Allen to hang with Randy Moss, but he might be a decent 2nd or 3rd corner, for example.  But on this team, he's asked to cover #1 receivers a lot.

...and I guess we have to consider things like age.

How do you rank our secondary, from best to worst?

I don't know why everyone has a hard on for Bell.

He ain't that good.

The entire secondary sucks.  It really does.

He's still a playmaker.  The best player on the worst unit of the team.

It did today. But there were weeks that it blanketed the offense , like the game with Denver.

I place Andre goodman and Will Allen as my Top 2 DB's.......That said I'd make corner back a priority in the off season. When you get DB's that can cover man to man it leaves the rest of the line and the middle linebackers to cover the run and the short passes. Thats how our defense did it with Sam Madison and Patrick Surtain.  Thats why Zack Thomas became a Star.

Our D Line isn't getting pressure.  That's bad.

When you give guys time to throw against this secondary, they're going to get eaten alive.  A lot of time, the coverage was good, by traditional standards, but Cassel had 10 days to throw and was able to put the the perfect ball down, despite the coverage.

He's still a playmaker.  The best player on the worst unit of the team.

Bell is the best safety.  Too bad he's leading the team in tackles.

1. Will Allen - best cover skills
2. Bell - see Tommy's comments
3. Jason Allen - does well, don't expect him to cover Moss
4. Goodman - hot and cold, better recently
5. Renaldo Hill - consistently late to the party

I don't know enough about the others but Renaldo Hill pisses me off on a regular basis.  I'm still pissed about the 4th & 13 Favre threw in game one...where the fuck was Hill going? I'm glad we cut the kid from Marshall, #20, don't remember the name.

Play in question starts about 2:14.  Video says it's Bell but it's ole #24.

I really don't know what to think of Goodman. He's really good at covering a receiver, but his weaknesses are huge and glaring (open field tackling and getting faked out).

Bell is an adequate strong safety.  Will Allen is good but he looks like he's losing a step.  His instincts are still there but I have to believe if he was younger, at least one of those balls he broke on early against New England would have been pick 6's.  If it was up to me I'd replace both corners and then see if Jason Allen can handle free safety.

Of course, when you have little to no pass rush like we had against New England, it doesn't do your secondary any favors either.

We need to get better that's for damn sure.
