The Dodgers Just got George Sherrill....About halfway down the page
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9871032/MLB-trade-deadline-buzz:-Thursday's-edition

The Dodgers have acquired George Sherrill from the Orioles, major league sources have confirmed to FOXSports.com.

According to MLB.com, Class AA third baseman Josh Bell and Class AA right-hander Steve Johnson will head to Baltimore in the deal.

Bell is a highly-touted prospect, but the Dodgers have enough left in their farm system to make a competitive offer to the Blue Jays for Roy Halladay. It's not clear, though, if they're going to be willing to do that.

The Cubs have aquired Pitcher John Grabow of the Pirates, and maybe  Tom Gorzelanny  (conflicting reports, and I'm not sure who we gave up....)

Thanks for the info Az,I just think He's watched the team for 3 years, and ses the same mistakes being made, over, and over...I think he maybe the one guy that can take this over priced bunch of talent, and have them listen....He seems to say stuff, Like, I think the Cubs need to watch out for this, and Bam it happens..I know there is a big difference between him saying something, when there isn't anything on the line, and managing...

The Cubs sent Ascaino,Hart (who was the Cubs starter today),and 3rd baseman Josh Harrison for  John Grabow, Tom Gorzelanny...Great game today kid,You've just been traded to the Pirates....Lol..I was never a fan of Hart....

^^^

B....My mistake. I love Brenely......I still think the D'bags screwed up by letting him go in the first place. I was thinking of Bob Melvin whom they let go of this season. I apparently did not eat my Wheaties this morning and let my brain get ahead of my eyeballs. Brenlely was a great manager and took the fall here for management bringing in all the Baby Backs way too early from the minors. I think Bobby B would be a great pickup for any team needing a manager. Many here in the valley of the neverending fucking SUN still are calling for him to come back. Again my mistake and thanks for the Dodgers info I had not seen that yet.

Fish talking to the Nats about Nick Johnson.

Thompson/Tucker are in the conversation.

This would be huge to get Bonafacio out of the lineup.

^^What the hell are you talking about?  The only thing that came out of Yankees ownership lately is that Baby George hasn't given the GM permission to add payroll.  Nothing is "heating up" between the Red Sox and Yankees.  Not the division race and certainly not the chase for Halladay.

It never surprises me when New York swoops in last second and plucks away a player.  That is what they do.  But as of right now the Yankees have said that they aren't going after the guy.

Then what do you call this:

A photoshopped picture...did you read the article that went with it? it was from the 29th,and buried at the bottom of the page. It's one paper trying to stir things up..Most of the Rumors (from newspaper websites, websites,SI) Have the Rangers and Dodgers making the biggest play for Halladay (it seems like most people feel nothing is going to happen...Alot of "talking"

The rumors have the Yankees hot and heavy for Jerrod Washburn...

An interesting three team rumor between the Red Sox Cleveland, and a mystery team....To send Victor Martinez to Boston..the third team is someone to take Ad Laroche..The article mentions the red sox tried to pull this type of deal for both Halladay, and Adrian Gonzalez, but failed...

Tommy - the MEDIA has been talking about Halladay since LAST YEAR.  Last time I checked the media doesn't get deals done.

This morning all I saw were "Rangers closing in on Halladay" stories.

Which would be interesting seeing that MLB has had to give Texas loans to keep them from bouncing checks to their players and staff.  Texas is in a big money bind.

^^^ Maine is spot on with this. Was reading reports that even if they had the prospects (which most feel they don't), the Rangers would never be able to do it, since MLB had to give Hicks (Rangers owner) $15 Million to make his payrolll in June and he is still hurting at the gates.

Just about everything I've read has said that once the Phillies got Lee, Riccardi has been saying his "gut feeling" is no deal will happen for Halladay.

I think the Blue Jays shot themselves in the foot holding out for more.  The word around here (before the Holliday trade) was that they wanted Wallace, Schu and Rasmus plus two other prospects from the Cardinals for him.  umm..NO!

I still have a weird feeling the New York swoops in and gets the guy.  I really do.  And it's just a feeling.  As much as Tommy would like to think Boston and NY are on constant conference calls with Toronto trying to out do each other, that is not happening.

I see NY picking up the phone around 2pm and saying:  "Hughes, Kennedy, and two guys of your choice in AAA, AA or A.  The only guy you can't have is Joba."

Just think Halladay winds up in NY.

Marlins not in talks with Padres for Heath Bell anymore.

They wanted Maybin + West/Miller + change....

I have to agree with moving on here.

Maybin in Nola:

OPS: .880

He cut his K rate almost in half since Carolina...
Mudcats: 31.79% of ab
Nola: 19.91% of ab

Tigers acquire Washburn for 2 pitchers

SEATTLE -- The Mariners have traded left-handed pitcher Jarrod Washburn to the Detroit Tigers for rookie left-hander Luke French and pitching prospect Mauricio Robles.

The Yankees, who have been considering an upgrade to their rotation, and Mariners also had spoken briefly about a proposal involving Washburn on Thursday afternoon, a source told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.

Major League Baseball's trade deadline is 4 p.m. ET Friday.

General manager Jack Zduriencik told ESPN's Peter Gammons that there was heavy interest in Mariners ace Felix Hernandez.

"I had calls," Zduriencik told Gammons, "and I listen to everyone. But it would have taken too much to even discuss a realistic trade."

Washburn has turned around his career this season. After three lackluster years in Seattle, the left-hander is 8-6 with a 2.64 ERA this season. He had won four consecutive starts before taking a no-decision Tuesday against Toronto. In that stretch, the veteran allowed only three earned runs in 36 2/3 innings.

Washburn will be a free agent this offseason, and the Mariners decided to maximize his trade value.

French has split the season between Detroit and Triple-A Toledo. He is 1-2 with a 3.38 ERA in five starts for the Tigers.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
