2011 NFC East Champions!

« on: September 13, 2009, 05:14:37 pm »

Very simple: This is going to be a LONG year. The Wildcat was horribly ineffective today. Horribly. You can't gadget and gimmick your way in the NFL like you can in High School or if you're Florida Gators and you play Community Colleges each week. You played garbage teams all year and ended the year by getting an ass kicking from Baltimore. This game vs. ATL looked a lot like that one.

I'd prepare for a sub-500 season, and I'd seriously start considering eliminating the widlcat, the wishbone, and student-body right / left from the playbook, before disasterous things start to happen.

I disagree that it was horribly ineffective.

The numbers weren't there, but we missed a wide open TD throw.  I think the things we saw were promising.

You're a fucking idiot.  One game does not make a season.
Actually you have Indy next week, so it's 0-2 already....... Grin

His point is you're not going to sneak up on teams this season and the pussycat offense isn't going to be as effective. The mullets caught alot of breaks last season, not this year. 8-8 at best.

Hey Cowboy/Gator fan, what other bandwagon do you want to jump on?

I'm confident enough to say we don't need to sneak up on teams.  I'm impressed with the defense, and the offense is not going to play that shitty every weak.  Atlanta was an offensive powerhouse last year, and they didn't do shit against the phins defense, all things considering the field position and turnovers.

I would like to point out that the Wildcat was run on average 6 times a game last season, yet it has somehow perpetuated a myth that the Dolphins used a gadget offense all season to cheat opponents out of victories.

The key to the Dolphins last season was not the Wildcat, but their protection of the football, and that is why we lost, you can't turn the ball over and expect to beat what is an improved playoff calibre team from last season.

We were lucky to make the playoffs last season, we weren't a playoff calibre team, so to say we are being brought back to reality by losing a close(ish) game on the road to a playoff calibre team is slightly wide of the mark.

(Although admittedly there are going to be fans who thought we were going to improve this season, you can gravedig my posts and see I have been saying the same thing all the time.)

I only remember them running the Wildcat one time, maybe twice.  The other stuff was really just a QB run, a playaction fake with White as a run threat and a flea flicker that was run to the outside.  By the way, great pass by Ronnie Brown going back to Pennington.

However, you are correct if you are intending to say that White did not appear to be much of a threat.  He really looks stunned at the size and speed of the defenses he has seen thus far (even preseason).  He looks scared!  Probably should be too, the guy looks pretty freakin' tiny out there.

Personally, I think the White experiment should be postponed a few weeks.  Wait until we come up against the right kind of defense in order to give him a chance at success and a little confidence.  Maybe wait until after the bye against the Saints.
