Did I mention I hate Weddings?

So Today I had to go to a Wedding,Luckily I didn't have to be IN the wedding, but Knew the people well enough to be invited to the friends and family dinner...Luckily some of my best friends were there, and we got in a big discussion/argument...A Valentines Day Wedding...Romantic Sweet,Cool...Hokey,kind of cheapening the wedding..

Some people thought....
1.) Never forgetting your anniversary
2.) Combining having to come up with something romantic for your wife into one night...(some argued cheaper too)

The Flip side thought....
1.) it was romantic,and sweet
2.) Roses and such tend to cost ore at this time of year....so being romantic may cost more, and Romantic spots tend to be full on valentines day...

I brought up the point with these two,it's their second marriage, they're in their mid thirties...They don't have the romantic Fantasies of marriage, like someone might have when they're younger....(The Groom chimed in that everything about the wedding cost almost double, because the high demand of valentines day....) They were originally gonna get married in March,The place they really wanted to have the wedding as booked all March,so they were on their fourth place...When a Valentines day spot opened up a  a week after they looked into the place....

So what are your thoughts on a Valentines day wedding?

I wouldn't do it, but so long as both partners are on board with it, I don't have a problem with it.

My thought...its best not for guys to think about these things.  If the bride wants it on Valentines day, then thats when it is held.  Better this Sunday than last Sunday...and yeah wedding halls are cheaper on superbowl sunday than valentines day.

Not my bag, at all, but having just recently gotten married, I'm in the camp that the couple should screw everyone else and do only what they think is fun and meaningful.  If that means getting married on Valentine's Day, then so be it.

I think there should be more choices. I think it is kind of hokey but I'm not a fan of Valentine's Day anyway.

The way to get around giving your SO a gift on Valentine's day is to have your birthday that day.

Wrt wedding dates... For my wife and I, we still celebrate "our anniversary" (as in the day we met / starting going out / whatever) rather than our wedding day. Friends and family congratulate us on our anniversary, but it really isn't that big a deal for us. The whole getting married thing was fairly minor in the grand scheme of things... e.g. compared to having kids. Now THAT'S a commitment.

I know people who celebrate the anniversary of dating, but I find it weird because how do you know the date? I mean typically when I get into relationships there is no conversation of "will you be my girlfriend". Do you count the first date? What if you hang out quite a bit already socially, do you then count the first time you stay together? My personal experience doesn't lend itself to having a hard date for these things.

I agree... or I would have, with my previous girl friends. That tended to happen much the way you describe it, but with my wife... well... not. I'm not saying it was "love at first sight" or anything (personally, I don't understand how you can love someone you've just met, considering all you know about them is the way they look... *cough* okay, so maybe I do understand), but still. The first time we met was when we started "dating" (which we never did in the traditional sense). So for us, that date is completely well-defined.

My parents got married on V-Day. Just a small ceremony at my grandparents house. They seem to be pretty alright with it! Married 36 years now.
