In Late July, early August I was really worried about losing my job....Right now I'm working 2 technically, and helping a friend out that happens to be paying me....My buddy, his wife, and I were driving into town to get a few things we needed. She was talking about in 09,how she changed jobs, and mentioned a couple from their church got laid off from the same place. She found a new job in less then two weeks...He had been out of work for close to a year, before going in a different direction....A lady I know that works at the courthouse, budget cuts got her...When last Friday was her last day...I've not been able to get a creative type job that I think I'd love to have, in about a year and a half I've been trying. On the other hand I've always seemed to land on my feet one way or another, by changing fields, trying to learn different things, trying for jobs I had no business in trying....So I realized not to worry about it (at least until it actually happens  Cheesy)

I don't mean to be a Debbie downer, or morbid, but if you lost your job today....Would you take it as an opportunity to maybe go do something you love? Would you pursue the same field you're in now? Would you just take a job, to have a job? Would you go back to school? What would you like to do?

Since I'm already in school to go into a different field (I'm still not quite sure which one) I'd probably just take some time off for a bit and really figure out what field I want to pursue next. I'd also work a bit harder on some of my side endeavors, too.

I think I'd go back to school and get an MBA and then go into more general marketing with a larger company.

I'd be on the I-95 offramp tomorrow, begging for change...

Well, I'm in college now.

I was supposed to go on coop, which means working for six months instead of attending classes, but I didn't get a job this time around.

However, I have a proctoring job, which means I can get through school with out dipping into the money I put away in my savings from my last coop (Spring of 2009, with Shire Human Genetics Therapies).  Plus, I used the tax returns I got from the job to pay off my loans, so I'm now debt free.

If I lost my proctoring job, it would be a big hit to my finances.  I've saved up a lot of money for when I graduate to get me through these difficult economic times.

That's my corner!  Find your own.

You can both engage in two different forms of business on the same corner.

I'd be upset, but I would certainly take it as the chance to do something that I actually love to do.  Maybe private cake decorating lessons?  People have offered me a lot of money to do it outside of where I teach now...so I think I would have options.

I would crap my drawers. I have 11 years into my job and i'd have 30 years in by the age of 50 and be able to retire. That's pretty fucking awesome. I don't have to pay into retirement as a New York State employee after 10 years of service, which I already have done.

If I lost my job I would anticipate having to either go back to school or take a job making 10-15 thousand a year less. Or I could make the same thing working about 30 more hours a week. That would be awful.

As a tenured professor at Gulf Coast Community College, I have no worries about losing my job.  The only way I can lose it is if the cutbacks (which are already happening) go far enough.  That has not happened yet and probably never will.  Granted these cutbacks have left me with more work as my classes have swelled by over 30%.

If I suddenly found myself without a job, I would spend a few days drowning my sorrows, then get my resume together and apply at other colleges in the state.  With my experience, I'm sure one of them would snatch me up quickly.  As empty nesters, my wife and I can easily relocate.
