Dolphins acquire ex-Jet Patrick Brown
Posted by Michael David Smith on September 24, 2010 4:43 PM ET
Another week, another AFC East rival scooping up a former Jet just in time to play the Jets.

Last week the Patriots picked up a former Jet, Danny Woodhead, the day before the teams met on the field, leading to some fans wondering whether Woodhead would be pumped for information.

This week Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Dolphins have claimed former Jets offensive tackle Patrick Brown on waivers.

I don't know if Brown will sing like a canary to help the Dolphins formulate their game plan, or if the Dolphins just picked Brown up because they legitimately like his prospects of helping their offensive line. But I suspect the Jets are wondering.

Just like the Jets picked up Patrick Turner.

I suspect both Brown and Turner will be cut after week 3

No way. This kid wasn't brought in for info. If so why wait so late in the week?!

They maybe like the kid. The Fins always seem to be turning over the bottom of the roster.

There are advantages and disadvantages to a late intelligence signing vs. an early one.  Overall I think the late one has more advantages.

Early - You can pump for more info and game plan with that info.

Late - You don't have time to add new plays based on what you learned.  But the opposing team doesn't have time to make adjustments either.  You learn of any game/team specific planning and plays.  Even if the player doesn't sing the opposing team has to assume he is that means that they can't use the "surprise plays" they spent the week practicing.  The Dolphins know the base Jets offense and defense.  What Brown can tell them is what adjustments and changes were made between the Ravens and Patriots game.

I am not saying the Fins won't keep him, just that the lateness doesn't mean it isn't intelligence gathering.
