Thigpen's time may be near!

As the saying goes, the most popular player on any football team is the backup quarterback.   You guys are amazing.  Henne was lights out the week before and everyone was singing his praises.  Hell, it caused Tepop to bail out on the website permanently.  And now Monday night he pretty much stinks the joint up and everyone wants him benched.    I think I'll divorce my wife because she burned the meatloaf last week.

Clarification:  I didn't mean "you" guys in my last post.  I was referring to the idea of benching Henne.  I know that the vast majority here are not in favor of that move.  But I phrased it poorly in my first post.

At least Thigpen shows some guts out there and doesn't play it safe constantly, I am so freaking tired of the boring crap.  Boring crap wins lots of games and all, but it rarely gets you to the ultimate goal.

Calm down, I didn't even see the guy play, I had turned off the game at that point.  I wasn't trying to knock Thigpen, I'm only trying to point out how ridiculous it is to start calling for Henne's head.  If the interception wasn't his fault then I apologize, but remember the same thing can be said of one of Henne's interceptions in that game and the one he threw in the Jets game.  It's also unfair to say Henne wasn't moving the offense since he's had over 600 yards of offense on 53-83 passing in the last 2 games.  Of those 83 passes he made a bad decision on 1 pass and 1 pass was poorly thrown for 2 int's, but he's also thrown for 4 TD's during that time.  It's not exactly Henne's fault the team isn't winning, so no offense to Thigpen or Pennington, but everyone needs to chill on calling for Henne's replacement.

In August my wife and I moved to Nonthaburi, Thailand. Having been born in Fort Lauderdale in 1947, I have followed the Fins since their inception. The last two Tuesday mornings(Monday night football), I have watched a quarterback that Bill Parcells was disappointed in in preseason throw interceptions and destroy TWO GAMES. Chad Henne has got to go and the coaching staff has no excuses to keep playing him. Without the three interceptions in the NE game and the one the Jets game, maybe we could be 4-0. Tyler Thigpen was a decent quarterback in KC. He deserves the chance, Henne Has blown his. LISTEN TO PARCELLS SPARANO, HENNE HAS GOT TO GO!!!  Henry Wolfskill

Special teams lost the game to NE.  They gave up 21 points.  There is no way the offense could recover from that.  Henne does not deserve to be benched at this point.  Maybe down the road, but not now.  We are still 2-2.  It's not time to panic.

I just found it interesting to listen to a clip of Chad Pennington talking at this Touchdown Club thing.  He was describing Henne and Thigpen and it really mirrored my thoughts on the topic.  If you get a chance to check out the clip it is on miamidolphins.com in their videos section.  The way he says what he observes out of the two comes across as very genuine and not just a predetermined line.

Basically he says that the way Henne and Thigpen play really reflects back on him because of all the work he is doing with both of them.  He first describes Thigpen as a "true gunslinger" and laughs a little at how aggressive he is in where he goes with the ball.  Like Sparano, he also compares him to an early version of Romo.  Then he describes Henne as very Testeverde like and I think we can all kind of see that.

Then I just thought to myself, "Damn, I really don't want a guy who is like Vinny Testeverde"!  I mean Vinny was a solid QB and all but what did it get anyone.  Then again, Romo can really drive you crazy with his inconsistency.  All in all thought, I think I would rather have Romo than Testeverde.

True, but we know how Vinny's story ended.  It is hard to argue hard for Romo with those early playoff departures, but I still think he did pretty well for being so early in his career.  I think Romo is more just an easy target as a Dallas Cowboy and the whole Jessica Simpson thing.  But Romo's play style is very reminiscent of Brett Favre's play style and whether you want to admit it or not it is fun to watch.

It's more fun to win.

The bottom line is that Henne isn't Vinny and Thigpen isn't Romo nor is he Favre.  I think that Henne has shown a real ability to make plays the last 2 games, it's hard to argue with over 600 passing yards and 4 TD's the last 2 games.  Yeah, he's made some mistakes too, the kind of mistakes that a young QB is going to make.  Yes he needs to improve, but if he eliminates those mistakes, I see a fairly high profile QB in the works that has the potential to be a better QB than Romo.

Whether you want to admit it or not, Sparano likes Henne and he's gonna stay the QB until Sparano is convinced he can't do it and I don't see that happening this year.  Thiggy is the 3rd string QB.  He was put in to prevent Henne from getting hurt or throwing another pointless INT like Thiggy did in a hopeless situation.

If Henne completes his final pass against the Jets and the Dolphins tie the game, we wouldn't even be having this discussion.  He was literally inches from pulling that game out.  Yes, I realize that this game is all about inches and that's what seperates the Marino's from the Romo's, but he at least got us there, on the doorstep, just 1 play from tieing the game (well 2 plays but you get the point).  He should get credit for that.  Now he needs to take the next step and get us in the endzone the next time we are in that situation.  I'm willing to give him that next chance.
