THE ASSCLOWN AWARD

« on: August 23, 2011, 10:00:58 pm »

I have decided that it will be on Saturday, September 3rd, at 8 pm.

Also, yes passing TDs will be only worth four points.

All scoring will be the same as in previous years.

The reason most fantasy leagues have passing TDs worth only 4 is because there are so few good QBs in the league as compared to RBs so if they were treated equally, the teams that picked first in the draft, would have a much bigger advantage.

^ Terrible idea.

"There are so few good QBs in the league compared to RBs..."

That alone should give more weight to their performances.  Why even use a higher draft choice for a QB if their production is just going to be nerfd anyway?  QBs are going to get drafted in the 4th or 5th 5TH OR 6th round in your league by that reasoning.  Just saying...

First time commish aren't you?

It's a pretty common practice really.  I'm finding it the average scoring system these days.

I hate the 4 points for TD's by a QB. I am in a lot of leagues and this is the only one that has suggested 4 points for a TD for QB's. That scoring set sucks and the logic behind it is even worse and I do believe we used 6 points las year as well in the TDMMC league.

Why are we moving the draft I thought we were going to pick this Sunday? Next weekend is Labor Day weekend why anyone does a draft that weekend is beyond me as many people (at least that I know personally) are busy or head out of town. I will not be in town or have internet access on Labor Day Weekend so if that is the case and you can not find another player Tubba can have my spot as I hate auto drafted teams.

4-point passing TD's is common practice.  6 points overvalues QB's.  A QB can have a pedestrian day and throw 3 TD's and score the same as a RB or WR that has a blow-up 200-yard 2 TD day.

The fact that QB's typically have 25-40 TD's for the season and RB's/WR's average 15-22 makes the point difference make sense.

Common practice?  I've never been in a league with that score set in over 10 years.

Also, it does not over value the position because :

1.  Most of the time, you only start 1 QB per team and usually 2 or more WRs and RBs.

2.  A pedestrian 3 td day?  Really?  Same can be said about a Jerome Bettis type RB who gets punched in from the goal line but really didn't do anything.

3.  QBs throw way more picks than RBs lose fumbles.  You must account for those loss of points.  Some leagues even penalize QBs for taking sacks.

4.  Unless your league is really nuts, QBs usually get 1 point for either every 25 yards or 50.  So 400 yards passing ( an awesome game! ) gets you 16 or 8 points.  Compared to a 160 yard rushing day (usually 1 point for 10 yards).  400 yards passing > 160 yards rushing in an actual game IMHO.

BTW...

4 points for a passing TD is the standard scoring for basic ESPN and Yahoo leagues. To do an ESPN league that doesn't have 4-point passing TDs, you have to create a custom league.

BTW...

A good commish never just changes draft dates by just sayin "I have decided..."

A good commish never changes "anything" involving the league settings or draft date without putting the proposed changes in front of the league for consideration...

We cannot do it on a Sunday evening at 8, because yahoo will not allow me to set it that date.

We could do it on a weekday evening, but again, I need you guys to talk to me

Also, if the majority of players do want a passing TD to be six, I'll make it six.

Good job on the draft day change, I can work with that.  I vote six points, but doesn't matter all that much to me either way.

4 or 6.  Does it really matter?

My vote is I don't care.
