Analysts are saying that NBA strategy might be more like the NHL this year, than it usually is.  With so many double headers and even back-to-back-to-back games, the new format favors teams that are young and deep.  It sounds like certain teams are going to focus on getting in the playoffs HEALTHY AND RESTED, over the traditional focus of getting a higher seed and home court.

Where a guy like Pat Riley likes to have a small rotation, teams that have large rosters with lots of substitutions (like 11 deep) may have more longevity.

I follow the Heat (and pay pretty close attention to the Celtics).  This will hurt the Celtics, so they may choose to just get in and save their stars, since they're aging.  For the HEAT, I'm not concerned about the health of the stars...it's the lack of depth that scares me.

I watch every single game.  I actually prefer the shortened season, I think.  More games, more often.

What I've seen so far in this shortened season:
1. Kobe is still the best scorer in the league. He's a beast.
2. Even though he can't shoot free throws, Dwight Howard may be from another planet. It's unfair to anyone trying to guard him. He's no longer a dunking machine but has added some nice moves to his arsenal.
3. The Heat are really deep and have a lot more talent on their bench than I realized, but LBJ still collapses in the fourth. I'm amazed that he is so dominant for most of the game and then commits TO's, misses free throws, or just seems nanchalant in the closing minutes. -EK

One of my colleagues put it this way:  If you give Lebron a buck, you only get three quarters.

What is it about playing in Miami that seems to make players disappear in the fourth? Phins might have won ten games this year if they only played three quarters! On topic, Howard went 20-20 again last night. -EK

Who does it help? Magic fans. The sooner the season is over, the sooner we can onto life without D12. However dreadful & long that may be.
