LaCanfora reporting the Fins asked Atlanta for permission to interview Mike Mularkey and Atlanta gave permission.

This one makes no sense to me at all. He was 14-28 as a head coach in Buffalo and never finished higher than 3rd place, I don't get this at all.

Probably just a formality, keeps the pressure on a guy like Fisher to make a choice.  I don't see what the hold up is on Billick, he seems like a legit possibility.

I think that Ross and Ireland want to keep some continuity.  I think they are looking for a guy that would be willing to work with our current coordinators for a year.  After a year, if there is an obvious issue and obvious improvement to be made, the HC would be able to bring in "his guy".  Is Fisher willing to do that?  If he is smart he would.  But if all he cares about is doing things his way and scratching his friends backs the he wouldn't and quite frankly I wouldn't want him anyway.

That is why I think Billick is interesting.  He has a solid name (superbowl winner), has had a chance to renew his coaching mindset and isn't so big of a name that he wouldn't be willing to work with Daboll and Nolan for at least a year.

Belichick was 36-44 in Cleveland.

I don't get this magic formula thinking.

We want some one with experience.  But not someone who did less than a blow the sock off outstanding job.  (If that was the case they would still be witht he team).  You are not getting Belichick, Sean Payton, etc.

Perferablely someone who has one a superbowl.  Nobody head coach has won the SB with two different teams.

The franchsie is a joke for interviewing a special teams coach.  As if that was a bad move for the Ravens.

Need to evealute the coaches qualities not look for a magic bullet.

Mularkey and Billick are offensive coaches neither are keeping Daboll.

And Nolan is gone. Bowles will be a d-coordinator for the Fins before Nolan is kept.

Mularkey interview is just confusing on all levels. The one year Mularkey was the offensive coordinator the Fins scored the fewest pts ever in Franchise History a record that stands to this day. The 2nd year he was in Miami (granted a tight ends coach) the Dolphins were 1-15. He had 2 miserable years in Miami and failed in Buffalo. Out of all the people to interview...him? Makes no sense

While you could absolutely be right, I don't agree.  Both have been head coaches and know that being a head coach is more about being an administrator than anything else.  Sometimes head coaches will also act as coordinators but it is not the majority by any means.  I could definitely see Billick or Mularkey keeping Daboll, especially if the owner and GM recommend it.

I don't know much about Nolan's situation.  I suppose his pride would incline him to move on.  But I don't think he will be let go by anybody.  If he leaves it will likely be his choice.

Nolan's contract is up, he is a free agent can sign anywhere he wants. He rented in Miami and doesn't have a home to sell and he cleaned out his office totally the other day. And he hasn't even been mentioned in Miami by anyone for a potential interview which is ODD since he is right there under their nose. Nolan is done in Miami unless a minor miracle happens. There were reports he was miserable his whole time in Miami anyway and wish he never went there shortly after he got there. True or not? Who knows but those rumblings have been out there.

What will get Mularkey hired if he is hired is his offensive performance in Atlanta, to let someone else call the plays would be silly. It's what would have got him the job! To not do it and keep the guy who led a losing offense would be idiotic! Billick's ego is what is keeping him from getting interviews let alone jobs, if you think that same ego will let him allow someone else to call plays....you are fooling yourself!

I used to hate Mularkey until I found out Saban was taking over the playcalling during games.  Buffalo was far from competitive as a team with him at the helm though.

Someone earlier mentioned Belichick in Cleveland.  The difference between the two is that Belichick's Cleveland teams could always run the ball and always had a decent if unspectacular defense and he was stuck with Vinny Testaverde at quarterback.

second that.

He is too quiet to overcome the fact that he hasn't been in a coordinator postion yet.  Once he proves and can be a good DC, he might get his shot.  Until then, he will be satisfying league requirements and getting interview experience/making connections along the way.

That offensive display against the Giants today by Mularkey's offense was terrible all those weapons and 2 points from the defense that's it.

The Falcons defensive coordinator led the team to more points than Mularkey did today. Not the game you want going into an interview

^^^ He had a lot of help from Nick Saban who liked to take over the playcalling during games.

He also currently has a shit quarterback who still hasn't won a playoff game (yet many of our board members covet for some reason) on a dome team that sucks when it plays outdoors.
