Free Agent WR Legedu Naanee worked out with Miami today.

Was with Carolina last year and did nothing. Was a decent player when he was in SD.

Well, he's tall.  That's pretty much all I know about him.

When did he get out of jail? Is he on the early release program? Maybe he can drive the snow blower...Uh, never mind.  Grin

Great. This is Miami's answer for replacing Marshall? A guy whose entire career numbers are about what Brandon did in one year with the Phins. And arrested for public intoxication and resisting? Yep, this is going to be a HUGE upgrade both on and off the field.  Roll Eyes -EK

This is a good signing guys.  I suggested we take a look at him more than a month ago.  Don't forget that we aren't going to have an "alpha" guy anymore.  The strategy will be to have several similar receivers and pick on the other teams weakest corners.

I think he is a tremendous downgrade from Bess or Hartline, maybe even Wallace, Moore and Gates. He will not be there by the end of August.

Doc- it's not really even a production problem for me. SOOOOOOOOOO many people pointed at Marshall's off the field issues as a reason to get rid of him, and now Miami signs a guy who was arrested for public intoxication. It's getting a player with all of the downside Marshall had and none of the upside. -EK

He is just a stop gap though.  And he is probably pretty cheap.  I would rather build our receiving core through the draft so I don't want an extended or expensive contract for a receiver at this point.

I see what you're saying, but I just disagree. He's not any kind of upgrade over what Miami has, so he may not even get on the field a significant amount of the time. That's a waste of a signing. -EK

Just something to think about for you guys...

When I played tennis, we had a strategy (although we weren't supposed to use it).  It was called, stacking.  Essentially, we had a seeding process where we would rank our players.  Our #1 guy would play their #1 guy and our #2 guy would play their #2 guy and so on.  If their team was obviously better than yours, you could try and re-order your rankings so that you had a less skilled player going up against their #1 and #2 guys, since it was obvious you were unlikely to win those matches anyway.

This way you have your #1 guy playing their #3 guy and #2 guy playing their #4 guy.  Overall, you had a better chance to win the event.

It doesn't work quite the same in football because cornerbacks aren't necessarilly designated to particular receivers.  However, you can still take away their best corner or two with crappy receivers and use depth to exploit matchups on less capable 3,4 or 5 positioned corners.

The point is this...  If your #1 guy isn't good enough to beat their #1 corner, who cares who it is.  If you invest in depth rather than a #1 guy, you have a strategy to beat most of the teams in the NFL who simply don't have much depth beyond 2-3 corner positions.

That makes sense if, and only if, your depth is not full of sub-par players. If your depth is full of crap, it doesn't matter how deep you are. -EK

Correct!  So we should really be talking about our depth.  The only thing is that it is probably best to talk about it after the draft because most of us are under the impression that we will be drafting a receiver.

The good news is we added depth with this receiver, even if it is in the form of pushing Hartline to #2 and we didn't have to spend a draft pick to do it.

Thus, this is a good signing (IMO).

I thought the general consensus was to draft a QB/DE/OL, at least in round one. If we could get Blackmon or Floyd, I'd be fine with that. -EK
