CFL RB Jerome Messham is having a 2nd surgery on his left meniscus in 5 months.

It was a longshot for him to make this team from the get go, this just probably made it impossible! His entire offseason is shot.

Does this mean his knee is torn? Or could this be a clean-up type procedure? Have any insight on the details of this surgery?

don't know all the details but he (Messham) is putting up depressing sounding tweets about this, doesn't sound good.

He wasn't making this team anyway. With Bush/Thomas/ Miller and then re-signing Steve Slaton in the offseason he had an uphill battle. They thought very little of him because they gave him a non-guaranteed contract for no money. This was NOT a Cam Wake 2.0 type of thing. Wake had teams fighting over him. This guy didn't and got the lowest of the low type of offer one could get.

Ok. I agree with all your statements above.

I believe we were trying to work with him in primarily a full back roll.  It seems to me that this news helps Clay get more play time considering all the tight ends we added this offseason.  And it also helps one of the long shot tight ends chances of making the team because of that.

Bummer for the guy though.  You hate to see an injury hamper a career before it has a chance.

I think his odds of making the team just went from "slim" to "none".

I thought he was going to play fullback with Charles Clay being more of a TE

I think that was an idea floated on this board (which we all need to be careful of). I don't know if it came from anywhere else but I had little interest in this player from the beginning.

FB Ovie Mughelli coming for a visit on Thursday. He helped Michael Turner get 1,000+ yards in 2010 and made the Pro Bowl and more importantly was named "ALL-PRO." Missed last year with an injury. Only reason Atlanta cut him was to save $3 mill.

If Miami signs him, good-bye Messham!

Someone tell me the actual surgery performed and I'll let you know.

I'm with EKnight. I don't understand how all the salary cap rules work but I thought Miami was pretty tight on money this year.

Ovie Mughelli will be 33 before the start of the season.  I doubt he would be more than a stop-gap measure.  But the fact that we are bringing him mostly answers our questions about Charles Clay being primarily a tight end and Messam being a full back.  Mughelli is not a camp body.

They're not saying anything more than it was on his meniscus, which could mean complete cartilage repair or just a small arthroscopic procedure, if I'm correct. No word on if it is a complete meniscetomy. -EK
