If I weren't at work, I would post the "Happy Happy, Joy Joy" song from Ren & Stimpy.

You beat me to it.  I was just getting ready to say that it may not result in more wins, but it will at least be a refreshing change to see someone show a little fire on the sideline.

Lest we forget, Philbin was a good guy, though a lousy coach.   He never seemed to bad mouth anyone or speak of ill others. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he was fired,  but sometimes nice guys DO really finish last, especially in a business like the NFL.

Philbin, for his part, will be paid through next season even though he will not be coaching the Dolphins. Always classy in his time with Miami, he remained so in his statement.

“I want to thank Steve Ross for allowing me the privilege to serve as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins," Philbin said. "This is a tremendous organization from top to bottom that has a talented and dedicated staff. I want to especially thank the players, coaches and football staff who have worked so unselfishly and represented the team with dignity and class.

"I would be remiss if I didn’t thank the incredible fan base who has supported me and my family unconditionally since day one. It is my hope that the 2015 Miami Dolphins achieve great success both on and off the field."

True.  Passion and fire without the coaching skills to go with it won't take a team far.  But neither will a blank look and unwillingness to give underachievers the kick in the ass that they need.

Whatever criticism you want to give Philbin, being "unwilling to give underachievers a kick in the ass" shouldn't be one of them.  He was perfectly willing to kick some of Miami's best skill position players in the ass... right out the door, even.  He had no problem whatsoever kicking Marshall, Vontae, and Wallace in the ass.

Maybe had he chosen to, I don't know, actually try coaching them instead, he wouldn't have been escorted out of the facilities today.

True. But I wasn't really referring to being willing to remove them from the team. I was referring more to the ability to light a fire under players and make them play with more passion.  Of course there is always a fine line between playing with a fire and not just playing "aggressively stupid".  There has to be that balance between finesse and physicality.  It just seems that the team too often took on the stoic demeanor of their coach and played "flat".  By no means am I saying that all the blame for the team's lack of performance falls on Philbin's shoulders.  Far from it.  The players still have to execute and Philbin hasn't missed a single tackle all year.   Grin  As the old saying goes, when a team is winning the coach is often given too much credit and when a team is losing the coach is often given too much blame.  But right or wrong, the head coach is the one who is ultimately responsible and one of the first to get the ax when things are going badly.

There was no benefit at all to trading Wallace. That's a great post.

The owner got rid of Marshall not Philbin, the other 2 you may have a point
