I have to agree with Sunstroke on this, Edgecrusher. $25 million for a starting QB who is not elite but well above average is a bargain. I see starting QB's who are way worse than Jimmy G making over $30 million a year.
Sure, it's certainly possible but not the slam dunk you guys may think it is. The Niners only have $21 Million in cap space and a lot of guys becoming free agents, Trent Williams included. In 2017 he got hurt and only played in 6 games. In 2018 he got hurt and only played in 3 games. In 2019 he played a full year and had a very good, Top 10 QB season. In 2020 he got hurt and will only play in 6 games. A very poor 6 games. Combine his injury history with his salary and their cap crunch and it makes sense to move on. If they keep him, it's more because they don't have any other options other than a free agent retread or starting a QB they drafted in the first round.
