I'm surprised at how all over the map we are.

I have had the full dose and 1 booster.

bivalent booster? I'm serious when I ask this question ... how many boosters are out there? I thought you get the shot and then just update it as it begins to wear off. Are there different types of booster shots?

The bivalent booster came out late last year .. it was a combination of the original booster, plus a booster targeted at the omicron variants, so it was a twofer. The omicron variant was so much different than the original the the booster was not effective

I had heard a while back that the COVID booster would likely just be paired with the annual flu shot and not be its own thing anymore.  I guess that hasn't happened yet?

I believe the government funding for COVID vaccines either just ended or will very soon.  The "omicron" booster that Fau mentioned is supposedly more long-lasting so not advised to get boosters every 4 or 6 months, but every year.  Its convenient to get flu shot and covid shot together, but then again i've never in my life had a flu shot.  My wife has had covid twice and i have still never had it (knock wood).

When I worked for the County they gave us free flu shots. Until then I never had one as I was young and in good health. The idea of getting seriously ill from the flu wasn't a concern. The first year I was talked into getting the flu shot the flu was really bad. People were getting it and missing like a week or so of work. I ended up getting it but since I had the shot it only lasted a couple of days and wasn't too bad. My inspector who had talked me into getting it suffered very similar. I know this seems contrary to my covid stance to those that want to argue but the flu shot has been around for many years with little to no side effects. Like I said before I'm not anti vax just anti covid vax or probably better off anti being forced to take a vaccine that hasn't been proven.

CF, just curious, how much data do you need before you consider the Covid vax "proven?"

I'm not asking to be cheeky, I'm genuinely interested in knowing when you will decide that you've seen enough from other people to consider getting it?

The underlying technology used in the covid vaccine has been around for almost 30 years. It was being used almost exclusively for things like cancer research and therapies. Mainly because why the hell would anyone think they'd need to use it for what's basically a flu shot. The fact that they re-purposed the technology to address something flu-like in covid was the "new-ness" of the technology.

I honestly have no answer to that. It's not like I have a check list but I will say I'm typically last to try something new. These new weight loss pills are a great example. I had the opportunity to start them last year and didn't. Turns out the one I was offered causes you to lose muscle mass and not fat so even though you lose actual weight you actually get fatter. I didn't partake in the Fen-phen craze either which turned out to be a good idea.

But when one of the guys who invented that technology pointed out why this one was dangerous in this case you want to call him a kook? Makes no sense to me. You either believe the scientist or you don't especially when they aren't getting paid to have an opinion. More people believe in media than science these days and its sad.
