The head scratcher of the 2026 Draft for me was the Browns drafting another QB.  They have Watson, who is presumed to be the starter if healthy and they have Sanders and Gabriel that they drafted last year, so why on Earth would they waste a pick drafting another QB??

In the 6th round, the nineth player they drafted.  That is a guy they wanted to take a closer look at in training camp and didn't think would still be available/signable as a UDFA.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems to me you keep drafting one until you find your QB and they haven't found him yet.

And even if you have one.  Brady was drafted when Bledsoe was the unambiguous starter.  Rodgers was drafted when Farve was the starter.

Watson is in his final year of his contract.

If they had used a second round pick it would be a different story, but he was the nineth guy they drafted.  They may have drafted everyone they thought was worth drafting and grabbed the top guy on the UDFA call sheet.

If you cut a 6th round pick at the end of training camp he isn't a bust.  He is just a guy who didn't work out.

I actually think this is sound strategy.  You should constantly be looking for your next guy, even if you have your guy.  And you can ship them off if they do well and you don't need them.  Late round picks don't mean anything and a fresh QB room is a good thing.  Also, they have bum QBs -- let's be honest.

Watson is an absolute waste - I bet they can't wait to get rid of this overpaid underachiever. Thank god we didn't listen to Flores and wind up with this bum on our list...

They may have lucked out something in Sanders, but they are not sure of it yet. Gabriel is a dwarf not cut out for the NFL.

I don't blame them throwing another dart lower down at the 2026 QB dartboard. I doubt they will get a look, but it can't hurt either.

A deal like Watson's is what gets a GM fired, but this was all on the owner and the owner obviously isn't going to fire himself.

A $230 million contract fully guaranteed for a guy who sat out the year before and was looking at a multi-game suspension!!  What the fuck were they thinking??

But they really haven't given the two guys drafted last year enough live NFL action to evaluate whether one of them might be the next guy.
