Don't be snowed by the "we aren't trying to unload Dontrelle Willis" BS coming out of southern Florida.  They are - to an extent that they offered Willis to a divisional foe.  Last week they offered Willis to the Mets for David Wright, in addition to another prospect.  The Mets felt that giving up Wright, having to take on Willis' entire contract and giving up another prospect was out of their range right now.

Willis will be moved before the all-star break.  Bank on that.

Sometime within the last several weeks, the Marlins offered Dontrelle Willis to the Mets for David Wright, according to Newsday.
That wasn't going to work. Willis for Jose Reyes would have been more realistic, though the Marlins now have Hanley Ramirez and the Mets probably would have turned it down anyway. As inexpensive as he is right now, Wright might be the game's most valuable property. Albert Pujols is the only obviously better bet for the next five years, and he'll make $77 million during that time.

You know me, Maine-meister...I usually take the vast majority of what you say about baseball as the king's own gospel. Not this time...

Dontrelle will not only NOT be traded by the all-star break, but he won't even be dealt during next offseason. Willis will be a Marlin to start the 2007 season.

Bank on that...  Wink

Willis for Jose Reyes is a huge insult towards Willis. Reyes can't get on base to save his life.
