This post is primarily for Fausto who thinks that I would look crappy (near death) after running a 15k.  (9.3 miles for those that don't think in K's!)

My picture after the race:

Sure my hair is a mess and everything, but I'm smiling and happy.

The race through Disney was awesome. I had a good time. I had a nice mellow run.  I didn't struggle to get to the finish line or anything. I wish I was faster, but that will come.

I have video of my finish (I chased down this chick that was driving me crazy the entire race!), but I can't get it to work.

I know I'd look near death after a 15K. You look great! Very sexy too.  Wink

People who've been doing marathon type runs for a while tend to look ok after one.

Buddha, did you visit any of the parks afterward?

I didn't get to visit the parks this time. We would've liked to, but it was around 90 that day and I wasn't feeling up to it.  (I just now am feeling back to normal.) I was starving and dehydrated. I'm still replacing calories and water now.

Glad to know a sweaty girl can look sexy!!!   Grin

Unfortunately due to the summer heat here, no good races until October.  I've got a 10 miler and 2 half marathons.  Now that I know I can cover the distance, I can really start racing them.

You don't look too bad considering the distance. By the way, you need to start hydrating seventy-two hours before major physical activity; drink about a quart an hour but don't drink more than 12 quarts in a day. If you find yourself having to catch up on hydration and nutrition, you aren't doing enough of it beforehand.

EDIT: If you can get ahold of a box at an Army-Navy surplus store, I would strongly recommend acquiring some MREs. They don't taste the best and there are some that are downright nasty, but they do pack a lot of necessary vitamins and minerals, plus the all-important calories, to sustain you during a run.

Thanks for the input Dearborn.

I'm still working out the nutrition/hydaration thing. It's kind of  hard.  I wore my heart monitor during the race, and it showed that I burned almost 1700 calories.  That's a lot to replace. I should've maybe had Gatorade or something during the race rather than water to throw a few calories my way.

That's probably why I felt a bit beat up on Monday. I was starving.

Gatorade is good because it has a lot of electrolytes, which helps your body retain water. The caloric replacement is miniscule, because Gatorade is just water, eletrolytes, flavoring, and color. That's why I recommended the MREs, a single MREs has anywhere from 1300-2000 calories, assuming you eat the entire thing. However, eat a normal evening meal the night before the race and a light breakfast the morning of, and then when you're done running eat the MRE (although take it slowly, if you gorge yourself you'll be seeing it again.)

I have an inkling about how you feel. I went to basic in Georgia and most of it was in the summer when the heat and especially the humidity was the worst, we had to do a 4 mile run with our gear in an assault configuration; no ruck, but we did have our BDUs, an IBA, our rifle, and ten loaded mags. The IBA is the big X factor because of the ballistic inserts varying in weight depending on size, but I don't think anybody got by with less than thirty pounds.

Did you even break a sweat?  It looks to me that you are getting ready to run.  No one should look that good after running a 15k!  Wink

Thanks CF.

The ambulances crack me up, but even funnier are the medics on bikes doing sweeps for the wounded.

Hey Janet!

It took me 1:56:?  I never can remember the rest.  Really slow, but at least I finished.  No walking or anything either.  A matter of fact, my miles (splits) were faster in the last half of the race.

Hopefully I will knock 20 minutes off that time after the summer.   Smiley

Congrats on the run. You look great  for running 9.3 miles. I would be layed flat out on the ground 1 mile into it.
Good Job!

Hope all is well.
