Did anyone see this game?? I just saw the highlights...what a nutty game.  You can hate on these guys all you want, but Bernie Williams is so sweet.  Cool

Yeah, that was an insane game. What will be overlooked is Cano's two great plays in the 9th that kept it at one run. A-Rod chokes again in the clutch. He is routinely getting booed now at home and it's not gonna stop until he leaves his vagina in the on deck circle when he bats. Statistically he deserved the MVP last yera because he also played great defense, but ask any pitcher and they'll tell you they would rather face A-Rod than Ortiz with the game on the line.

Rivera will be fine, he just needs more work. The same for Farnsworth.

Edge, what do you think of Melky Cabrera?

P.S. I love Jorge Posada.

America's team

One of the greatest games i have ever witnessed. Good call on the great plays by Cano, Edgecrusher. The Game (Jeter) was 4-5 and even the out he made in the bottom of the 9th at least advanced Damon into scoring position. I am giving PayRod a pass in the 9th cause he absolutely ripped that ball, it just happened to be right at the CF.

What heart.  I mean, really!  9-0 in the first and to just keep coming and coming.  We all watched the high lights in the locker room last night, the boys were very happy for their NY counterparts.  Schilling said it best watching that:  "Champions don't quit - look at those guys!"

Great win, kudos.

I think Melky will be a very solid player the next year or two. He will never be an MVP candidate, but I think he can be a Paul O'Neill type with a .320 average and 20 HR or so. Right now at the plate he looks fine, though he has just hit singles so far. He is working the count more than Cano which is very good.

He has a cannon for an arm, has 4 assists already in 7 games. He is still nervous in the field though. Not like last year, but he still bobbles a few balls. Torre's criticism of him for not actually catching Jay Payton's HR was retarded and proof Torre is hurting the team more than helping it.

Right now I'd say he is a liability for the Yanks, but he is better than Bubba and he needs the experience so they should just bite the bullet and keep him in left for the year.

I don't think Melky is better than Bubba, actually.  Long term, maybe.  Now?  I like Bubba.

What surprised me is that the game was accomplished without the aid of Matsui, Sheff, or Giambi. I stopped watching out of disgust once the rangers scored 4 in the second inning, then was glued to my computer later on when I heard about the comeback.

I really hope this will bring the team together and give us some sort of morale boost. When we gave up on Mussina the other night I really couldn't believe it. Made me sick to my stomach...

Maine, how'd you get the job you currently have (if you don't mind me asking, that is)? Also, why the preference for Bubba over Melky right now?

I've been in radio since I was 13 and morphed into a writing / broadcast role out of college.  Just something that happened.  Factor in my personal experience with the game and I guess you have a match!

Bubba has a slicker glove and has been around the Bronx for a long time, he doesn't rattle very easily.  Neither will give you too much with their bat right now, so you need to look at positives.  Bubba is better on defense, at least right now.  Doesn't matter, really, as both are starting.  But when Sheff comes back, I'd go with Bubba and sent Melky back down to get some more exposure on the AAA level.
