The man is almost 70 years old. He grew up in the 40's & 50's. You need to remember what the generation thought process was like when he grew up.  People thought different then, than most do now, as Kyle said at the end of the article.
Most thought process is set as young kids & teenagers. Once you reach a certain age you will not accept someone telling you its wrong to think that way, no matter how much they support it.
Just watch some old movies, when two women are talking & one will say. He is not a bad man, he rarely hits me. And they are serious.Â
I find nothing chauvanist about this comment.
